Invention Ideas for 6th Graders

Speaking of invention ideas for 6th graders, well, as intimidating the subject sounds, it surely isn't. In fact there is a lot of things in the world of science, which are equally exciting and interesting for the young 6th graders to cook up and make a niche for themselves. I think it's time to take a look at this article, which definitely speaks for itself.
Sometimes, for a person, invention takes a while and at times it just takes a day to come up with a thought, an idea or a solution to the unsolved mysteries. Inventions in the field of science have always played a major role in the course of history. After the theories are invented, there is always something substantial out there for people to relate and look up to. Today, we cannot think of living our lives without the existence of computers, or automobiles, telephones, satellite communications and innovative things like such. These inventions were initiated someday by some people. Many great minds started their wonderment and inventions since their early times of learning, like schooling and graduation. Well, you or your child can be an inventor too, if you just consume the power of your brain a little more than what's needed usually. Particularly, if you are still young, say in a 6th grade or so; that is actually the period of learning. Keep the habit of stimulating your brain for every science activity you do and chances are more of you outwitting others when you grow older.

For now you might think, you are just in a 6th grade, and invention ideas... uh very overwhelming, right?! But believe me, for a 6th grader like you, the activities and inventions will not be intimidating at all. Because I have some brainstorming, interesting and smart ideas and science experiments discussed in this article, which will encourage you and give you enough confidence to place the book knowledge to practice. Hypothesis to visual pictures. Imaginations to work. And finally, will give you imaginary wings to fly and touch the skies! So, come let's take a look at some invention ideas that would definitely help a 6th grader like you think outside the box.

6th Grade Invention Ideas

Invention ideas for students in the 6th grade give them a chance to do away with the routine curriculum for a while and begin to explore and reach limits beyond their limitations. There is no specific background in which the inventions are supposed to be performed. Science is an enormous field and subjects like physical sciences, natural environment, physics, chemistry or even biology helps to form the foundations of science as a unit. Although, you might feel what's the whole point of inventing a project when we are already helping you out over here. Well, agreed to the fact that this statement is true, but the way you would present it, with all the alterations and innovations, that would make your work look original.

How to Make an Egg Float
As we all know, how objects float and sink in water, depending upon parameters like size, weight, density and so on. A student can take an egg, some salt and a quart of water and can show why an egg sinks in the water. Also, they can use the equation of density which equals mass/volume and easily show why does the egg sink in the water. Keep a track of the amount of salt used on the egg, before it floated and after it sunk. Salt plays a role to obtain a density of the object in water.

Flying Machines
Hard-core inspired from Wright Brothers or Leonardo da Vinci? Who in the primitive times created wings from wax and feathers. Well, in modern times students can use electricity or fossil fuels for creating a flying machine. Now materials which are compatible with these sources should be known by a student. Like using iron, steel or plastic with electricity or fossil fuels might have an adverse effect or may give positive results too. These trial and errors would help them develop the model appropriately. Flying machines like, hang gliders, bicycle helicopter etc, could be few of the very creative invention ideas for kids to perform.

Hearing Experiment
Humans' hearing capacity reduces at a certain age. This is a natural process. Well, to make a theory on sound, a student must develop an audio experiment and make a volunteer sit in the center of a room all blindfolded. The room must be divided into several audio regions. Every region should have a person volunteering to create some kind of a noise. Then the blindfolded person should be asked to make out the direction of the noise accurately. Record all this data and make graphical visualizations of this sound experiment. Draw two graphs, one of the accuracy of hearing (age on hearing capacity) and second of the overall accuracy of the noisemakers w.r.t. each region (place of the human ear).

Well, students can try all these invention ideas as innovative experiments in their science projects. Below is a list of some more ideas, in case, if they are fishing for more ideas to invent something unique. These are random questions, kind of a brain-stormer list which will drive you to go ahead and find out the reason behind each of these possibilities.

Some More Invention Ideas
  • Find out the different types of pH value in carbonated sodas.
  • Color the carbonated water and check whether the taste changes or not.
  • Why do some plants grow better in the indoors than the outdoors?
  • What is the type of water which contains the minimal amount of chlorine?
  • Does the rise or drop in the environmental temperature affect the balloons internal temperature?
  • Do breads mold at the same rate of time?
  • Does the sublimation of metallic - iodine in chemistry, really produces a purple smoke? If yes, why?
  • There are several types of knots to strengthen a rope. Do different types of knots really affect the strength of a rope?
Just don't study these lessons, but learn the working of these experiments as your hobby. You'll remember it better! And yes don't forget to make a niche for yourself in your school and effectively in history too. Feel confident! Coin your name!
