Invalid Page Fault Error Message - Microsoft Word
Some faults in MS Word create more complications than others and are more painstaking to troubleshoot. Nevertheless, when an error message plagues the normal functioning of a program, it should not be dealt with lightly specially if it happens to be an Invalid page fault error.
Invalid page fault errors occur when a particular program accesses the RAM in a faulty manner thereby reading or writing data to a memory location, which has not been allocated to it for the purpose. When we load a document in Microsoft Word, the given program requests the operating system to provide it with blocks of memory of specific sizes in the RAM for storing its data. When the program by mistake attempts to write data to a location beyond the end of a memory block or when the program gets confused and tries to access a non-existent block of memory using an invalid pointer, the operating system gauges the discrepancy that is affecting the system and accordingly generates a "page fault" or a "segmentation fault." This in most cases indicates that the information that was previously stored at that location either has been overwritten or has been rendered corrupt.
When an invalid page fault error occurs, the message that flashes is very similar in syntax to WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module <module name> at <address>.
This problem has two other sources from where it can possibly stem:
When a temporary file created by one of Gold Mine Business Contact Manager's Gold Mine templates, Gmlink.dot, still remains in the Word Startup folder.
When the Normal.dot template gets damaged or corrupt
Possible troubleshooting mechanisms:
Since the temporary file does not contain complete file information and structure, Word 2000 fails to open the file and gives out the "Invalid Page Fault" error. This can be solved by manually deleting the temporary file from the Word Startup folder.
If the problem persists, try deleting the Normal.dot file but dont forget to rename it as the Normal.dot file template resets many options back to the default settings, including custom styles, custom toolbars, macros, and AutoText entries.
If you are a beginner and not quite desirous of handling the operations all by yourself, its better to entrust the job to a data recovery company. The fault that has occurred can be set right by following the given procedures but what cannot be done is the data recovery that might be necessary if your precious data has gone missing while the program was storing its own data in the unallocated location. In most cases, the data is still there but it merely turns corrupt and inaccessible.
Stellar Information Systems Ltd, a pioneer Data Recovery Company has devised an innovative software Stellar Phoenix Word Recovery to effectively repair and recover lost/missing data from corrupt and damaged Word documents that might have suffered reverses due to the above mentioned problem.
The technologically sound and advanced algorithms extract as much recoverable data as possible from the defective Word documents and provides optimum repair and restoration without deleting or modifying the original data or the original format of the document.
Word Repair software supports all modern file versions, including Word 2003, XP (2002) and 2000 and can efficiently retrieve data from RTF (rich text format). It is compatible with Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista and the user-friendly interface can lessen the onslaught of the ordeal to a considerable extent.
