Introduction to VoIP Phone Systems

This article outlines recent developments in communications technology, namely the VoIP telephone system.
VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol, is popular development in communications technology that offers improved and communication solutions at a more cost-effective rate than traditional communication systems. Traditionally, PBX systems, that is, landlines telephone systems, were the main if not only choice for businesses but with the advent of VoIP technology, many of the limitations seen in PBX telecommunications systems were eliminated. VoIP phone systems offer huge benefits to businesses of all sizes. Also known as Hosted IP PBX Systems, VoIP phone systems can aid businesses ina variety of ways including the projection of a professional, cutting edge company image and the reduction of costs for both local and international phone calls.

VoIP phone systems come with an extensive array of features - name dialling, extension dialing, caller ID, on old music, voicemail - the list goes on.

Due to call forwarding technology, calls can be routed to whatever predefined phone numbers are required by the business including mobile phone numbers and home/office landline numbers. This comes irrespective of the location. it is also possible to deliver voicemail and fax mails to users by converting them to email with a VoIP phone system. While existing PBX phone numbers can be retained via linking them to the exchanges, virtual toll free numbers and local phone numbers (with an area code for any city that a hosted telephone service provider covers) can be obtained for the phone system. Additionally, voice, image, data, and video can be shared by all users of the VoIP phone system over a single line. Thus, a VoIP PBX phone system can noticeably increase the productivity and efficiency of a business .

Using a high bandwidth internet connection, the VoIP PBX system is implemented in a virtual manner and so businesses do not require the sizable equipment, and installation and maintenance costs, that come with traditional PBX telephone systems. All equipment needed is maintained by the service provider at their premises.

VoIP Phone Systems are highly scalable - if needed extra connections and features can be added to the existing system with ease and at a much more economic cost than with a traditional system.

VoIP phone systems are a low cost alternative to a business' communications need offering an effective replacement for expensive, traditional communication systems and providing the same functionalities at a greatly reduced cost.
