Internet Keeps Disconnecting and Reconnecting

Many people often say that their Internet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting for no apparent reason. This is quite a headache and there are many probable causes, and hence there are a variety of solutions. Finding the right solution can be a slightly daunting task though. Read on, to gain some insight into this problem.
There are many things that could be wrong with your broadband Internet connection, and it would be impossible for you to check every single wire and port for a possible malfunction. The problem could be originating from your service provider himself, and in that situation there is really no easy way out for you.

This is a very annoying problem to deal with as it hinders your internet access to information, and to be honest with you the only way to solve this is by trial and error. When people call up the customer service stations of their service providers and tell them that "My Internet connection keeps disconnecting" they are usually given many different answers and solutions. Most of these answers are quite meaningless though, and they can frustrate the person even more. So here are some pointers for you; you'll have to see what works for you!

Possible Reasons

If you have tried calling your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and not received any help in return, then maybe you should try to get to the root of the problem yourself. It could be a hardware problem, a software problem, a clash of access points or simply a loose wire. It's important to understand the many things that can go wrong, before you get to the bottom of why your Internet keeps disconnecting every 5 minutes.

Virus
Maybe your computer has been infected by a virus. Buy a new antivirus software and install it on your computer. Regularly scan your machine for threats and run all the security updates that you can. Computer viruses can cause a lot of havoc and though they rarely affect your Internet connection, it is a very real possibility. In some cases, maybe a malicious application has been downloaded on your machine. This application may require heavy use of bandwidth and that causes your Internet to disconnect, or maybe it is trying to constantly connect to a server somewhere. Run a disk cleaner on your machine and locate this application and get rid of it.

Wireless Reception
If you have a wireless Internet connection, then the problem may be a little easier to pinpoint. The wireless reception can keep fluctuating from time to time and this can have an adverse impact on your connection. The signal strength will give you a good indication about what kind of connection to expect, and if it is very weak, you have located the problem. Get a stronger router, or contact your ISP to solve the problem for you.

Modem
Sometimes this happens due to a faulty modem. The software drivers need to be properly installed for your modem, and if you find this to be the cause, you can reinstall them. Find the device manager on your computer and if the modems name has a yellow icon beside it, you need to reinstall the modem drivers.

Cables
If you have cable Internet, then maybe you just need to check if all the wires are properly attached. Sometimes a simple thing like this can lead to a major headache and once the problem is located, it can leave one holding their head in disbelief. Ensure that all the wires are connected properly.

Other
If these things do not work for you, try using a 3rd party wireless utility. Also go to your device manager and click on properties for the wireless card. In the advanced tab and under the property box there is an element called 'WZC Managed Ethernet'. In case this is disabled, enable it.

Any of these causes could be the reason why your Internet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. To get to the bottom of the problem you do not have to be a techno savvy whizkid, but by being a little proactive you can make a difference. Try not to get frustrated by the situation though, and find a suitable solution.
