Installing Window Air Conditioners - How to Install a Window Air Conditioner
The summer heat is rising up and you have finally decided to cut off the heat, at least in your living room or bed room. Well, a window air conditioner will perfectly suit your purpose. Now, without wasting much time, lets get down into the details of installing a window air conditioner.

Preliminary Requirements

Before we start off with the actual installation procedure, lets try to understand a few basic requirements that will help ease our work. Before buying the window air conditioner, please take into notice, as to whether the window air conditioner you are purchasing will be sufficient for cooling the entire area, for which it is meant. Since all window air conditioners do not come in the same size, make proper measurements to check that the window air conditioner fits into the window. Also, take care that the window where you have decided to install the window air conditioner, does not close side-ways. It's not that a window which closes sideways is not suitable for installing the window air conditioner, but a vertically closing window will help ease your work to a great deal. That way the air conditioner will fit tightly into the window. Also the window that you select for the window air conditioner installation, should have a power supply point near it.

Window Air Conditioner Installation

Most of the air conditioners that are manufactured today, come with mounting brackets. This makes the task of installing the window air conditioner practically simple. The steps for installing the window air conditioner can be listed as under:
  • To start off with the process, slide in the air conditioner bracket into the window sill.
  • The bracket should be properly mounted on the window sill and its corners should be screwed tightly. The center screw of the bracket should be screwed such that the air conditioner can be aligned to the bracket.
  • The next step is to fit in the air conditioner inside the bracket. Slide the air conditioner into its bracket and pull out the extensions.
  • The locations where the screws need to be inserted should be drilled properly. The extensions of the window air conditioner, that have been pulled out, already have the provisions for the screws. You can use these provisions as a reference for making the proper drills on your window sills.
  • Screw the air conditioner tightly to the window sill.
  • Use foam to insulate the air conditioner from the window sill. This also prevents the cool air from the window air conditioner, from flowing out of the room.
  • Finally, pull down the windows and fix them tightly, so that the air conditioner is properly secured.
When installing window air conditioners, a few other things should also be kept in mind, like it is always advisable, to tilt the air conditioner slightly, so that there is a proper drainage of water. If your window air conditioner has come along with angular brackets, the entire system can be secured even better by simply screwing the angular brackets to the window sash. When installing window air conditioners for a room located upstairs, take proper preventive measures and work very cautiously. One very important thing that you should know is, by installing window air conditioners you can just cool down a single room, unlike a centralized air conditioning system.
