Installing Cabinet Hinges: How to Install Kitchen Cabinet Hinges
Cabinet hinges can give your modular kitchen a fresh look and that too at a low cost. If you want to learn, how to install kitchen cabinet hinges, continue reading.
The basic tools required for installation of kitchen cabinet hinges are similar to those required for any carpentry-based job. We need a hammer, wood chisel, screws, drill and a screw driver. A measurement tape and pencil is required for measurement purposes.
We can divide the installation process in a few steps, which can be listed as below.
Step 1: Before starting with the installation, we need to mark the exact position where the kitchen cabinet hinge needs to be placed. Use the measurement tape, to calculate the exact location where the hinge should be placed with reference to the door. Place the cabinet hinge exactly at the position where you want to fix the hinge and mark the outline of the hinge, using a pencil. Similarly, mark the position of the hinge on the door of the cabinet.
Step 2: Using the hammer and chisel, cut out the exact portion where the hinge should be placed. Do it for both the surfaces. It will give the hinges a better look. If you have chosen a flush door hinge for your kitchen cabinet, then this is an important step. A flush door hinge, is concealed behind the door and only shows its barrel. If this step is not followed, then the entire purpose of using the flush door hinge will go in vain.
Step 3: Now, you need to fix the screws to hold your hinge in place. Mark the positions where you need to screw in the kitchen cabinet hinges. Carefully drill the exact locations where you need to screw the hinge. Complete this step for both the surfaces.
Step 4: Once you are done with the drilling, screw the cabinet hinge at the position, you have marked for it. Tighten the screws using the screwdriver.
Step 5: After completing the installation of all the cabinet hinges, move the door to check if the screws are properly tightened. In case during rotational movement of the door, you find that the door is shaking, then probably the screws have not been tightened properly. If there is any hindrance in the movement of the door, oil the cabinet hinge.
Following these five steps, that have been listed above, you can install a kitchen cabinet hinge very easily. However, be sure that you have a good hand in carpentry-based jobs.
A wide variety of kitchen cabinet hinges are available these days. The flush door hinge, ball bearing hinge and knuckle hinge are just a few of them. Do spend an ample amount of time in deciding the cabinet hinge that would suit your kitchen the best.
