Inline skating is a special type of skating, that is done with skates known as inline skates. Inline skates usually have three, four, or five wheels, arranged in a single line. Most commonly, if these skates have a stop, it is a heel stop. Inline skating is often done on the road or sidewalk or in skate parks with various street furnishings like fences and steps. It's also done on special tracks and areas. Some inline skaters even compete in artistic skating events, thanks to the rising popularity of this sport. Given below are a few tips for beginners that will help you grasp the basics related to this sport.

Tips for Inline Skating
  • One of the most obvious yet undermined inline skating tips is to wear skates that fit properly. This is because not only will ill-fitting skates not let you gain the right balance that you need to skate but they will also give you sore feet and blisters.
  • As a starter, you may be really tempted to go down a hill because the speed can give anyone a huge high! However, you also need to know that if you go downhill without knowing how to brake, you're going to land up in the hospital before you reach the end of the hill. Even if you want to go down a hill, be sure to gage the hill beforehand so that you know at what speed you will be sailing down it.
  • Another important tip is to master the heel brake before you start skating at breakneck speed. This is important because it will substantially decrease your chances of crashing into a moving, or more embarrassingly, a still object.
  • If you are roller skating outside, then first find a smooth, hard surface and avoid roller skating on uneven terrains. This is because it takes just a slight decline to quickly lose control. And of course, avoid roller skating around traffic.
  • Always, under any and every circumstance, wear protective skating gear! Many people tend to take this tips very lightly but trust me, it can prove to be a lifesaving tip. Around forty-six percent of the injuries that are sustained by skaters is due to them not wearing any safety gear. Hence, always ensure that you are wearing proper safety gear, including a helmet, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads (unless you want your bones broken in multiple places).
Aggressive Inline Skating
  • Before staring out with aggressive inline skating, ensure that you are thorough with your basics of skating.
  • Start out by practicing simple moves such as skating backwards for relatively longer periods of time or jumping over small things while you're on your skates. You can also start off by jumping down a very small number of steps (two or three maximum). As time goes on, you can go on to bigger objects and other obstacles.
  • Once you've mastered jumping over objects, try out some variations, like try doing a 180º flip over the object.
  • Go to a skate park and start off on smaller flat ramps and near the end of the first visit, try dropping in on a quarter or half-pipe.
  • Grinds require a rail that is set at a gentle angle. So, you can try some grinds which are nothing but simple tricks when attempted on small enough obstacles. When doing grinds though, remember to bend your knees so as to maintain your balance.
