Information on Tabby Cats
As it climbed up the curtains, I watched in despair. This tabby must have been the naughtiest amongst all the cats that lived with me at home. A cat is so often misunderstood to be cunning and unloving...however, I am sure cat lovers would beg to differ. A cat can be a cute, cuddly, loving pet that can surprise and delight you with its playful antics. Stroke a cat and you are bound to hear its happiness through the purring sound! A cat breed should never be the criteria while looking for a pet. Any cat can be loving and adorable, be it an exotic or a common breed.

Tabbies are amongst my favorites of all kinds of cats. Four tabby kittens have already made their home on my bed and my computer table! Well, I can never get enough of cuddly tabbies. If you love tabby cats as much as I do, read this information to know some interesting details.

Information on Tabby Cats:
Tabby cats are not any specific breed of cats. The term refers to a pattern that is seen on the cats. When a coat of the cat has those particular markings, it is referred to as a tabby! These markings are in stripes or whirls on the body of the cat. The color of the coat may not be restricted to a single shade; a tabby can be fresh orange or ginger, brown, grey or even multicolored with patches.

The patterns on a tabby cat are often tiger-like in appearance. Tabby cats often have tiger stripes on the sides of their tummy. Swirls and ring patterns around the leg or even the tail is another characteristic of a tabby. These patterns may vary depending upon the breed of the tabby cat.

A typical tabby cat has a prominent M-shaped marking on the forehead. This shape is present between the ears and above the eyes. There are many tales that speak about the origination of this mark. Many religious stories are associated with the beautiful tabby cat. They may even have a bulls eye pattern on their sides. Brown tabbies with green eyes are amongst the most common of the varieties seen.

Tabby cats can also camouflage themselves very well in the wild. The various stripes or patterns help it to blend well amongst the leaves. This pattern can be on domestic as well as wild cats. For example, the leopard is a spotted wild cat and the tiger has stripes on its body.

The striped tabby cat has vertical lines that resemble the bone of a fish on the body. The pattern is also referred to as a Mackerel pattern. A spotted tabby has spots all over the body, particularly around the stomach area. Blotched tabbies, also known as classic tabby cats have the M pattern mentioned earlier. Ticked tabby cats have a coat that has distinct coloring in patterns. The pattern itself may not be clear; such cats have agouti hair over the body.

This information about tabby cats must have given you an idea about these beautiful animals. So, did you take a closer look at your cat today?
