Infertility can occur to both men and women or to either of them. In either case there is a solution. Before we move on, let’s have a quick look at the female infertility. One of the common causes is Poly Cystic Ovaries Syndrome (PCOS). Here the ovulation does not happen because of hormonal imbalance. Women who have PCOS have irregular periods, absence of periods, excessive hair growth and so on. There are therapies to check for PCOS. It can be controlled using medications.

The infertility in men can be due to poor sperm count, low motility, semen deficiency or due to no sperms. There are cases where the tubes that carry sperms may be blocked. In such cases, the problem is solved by surgery. These are some of the causes of infertility in men.

The advanced treatment for couples who face infertility problem is IVF (ICSI); IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization and ICSI for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection. ICSI is an advance treatment in IVF. This is considered as a break through and has helped many couples to conceive. This technique was introduced in the year 1992. This is considered as a successful and commonly used to treat male infertility problem. In this procedure, the sperm is injected directly into the egg to form an embryo; this embryo is later transplanted into the womb. IVF or the technique of test tube baby was established in the year 1978. In this procedure, the eggs are mixed with the sperms in a dish. The sperm acts on the egg to form an embryo which is later transplanted to the uterus. The women are given strong fertility drugs in form of injections to increase the production of the eggs followed by injections to stimulate ovulation. The doctor removes the eggs using a fine hollow needle. The patient is given anesthesia. Another cost-effective treatment is Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI). You are first treated using the IUI technique before moving on to IVF. This is advised for couples who are unable to have intercourse due to injury, disability and other infertility problems. Here the sperm is injected into the woman’s uterus. Only if the IUI fails are you advised to go for IVF.

It is a dream of every woman to hold her bundle of joy. In a way we should be thankful to the medical science for developing various methods to treat infertility. In cases where you have low or poor or no sperm, the couples can go for donor sperms. If the problem lies with the female, she can opt for donor eggs. Remember, there is nothing to be ashamed of or worried about. Infertility can be treated and it is one of the common problems faced by many around the world.
