Industrial Piercing Aftercare
Body piercing is an art, in which we get a chance to flaunt additional jewelery. Apart from the usual ear piercing, you can find innumerable funky ways to get piercings done. Nose piercing, eyebrow piercing and navel piercing are quite common these days. The latest fashion craze, especially among teenagers, is industrial piercing. Commonly done in the upper part of the ear, industrial piercing is characterized by two pierced holes connected by a single piece of jewelery. Let's take a look at industrial piercing procedures and industrial piercing aftercare tips.

Industrial Piercing Procedure
As already mentioned, industrial piercing is carried out by making two holes in the upper cartilage of the ear, after which a straight piece of jewelery is used to connect those pierced holes. Prior to the industrial piercing procedure, the area is cleaned using alcohol swabs. Based on the client's preference, the professional marks the holes locations and analyzes the angle. Then he makes the piercings one after another, with a sterile hollow piercing needle of about 12-14 gauge. After wiping blood (if any) and disinfecting the area, the needle is replaced with industrial piercing jewelery. In case two or more industrial piercings are done in the same ear, then it is referred to as a cage. Read more on different types of ear piercings.

Even though industrial piercing can be done on your own, and with your friend's help, getting it done by a professional piercer is the safest method to minimize and/or avoid complications. By practicing proper industrial piercing care, you can avoid the complications associated with this type of body piercing. Following is a brief about industrial piercing aftercare tips, which you can follow to ensure safe and faster healing.

Cold Compresses
Industrial piercing can be very painful. A misconception for obtaining relief from pain is applying a hot compress, which in turn irritates the pierced area. In spite of this, you can opt for a cold compress using a cool washcloth in order to numb the area and reduce pain. Pain usually subsides after the first week of piercing.

Clean the Pierced Area
One of the important tips for industrial piercing aftercare is keeping the pierced site clean. Industrial piercings should be cleaned on a regular basis. Consult a professional piercer or a dermatologist for recommendation of a mild and effective antibacterial soap. Do not use peroxide or strong soaps to clean the area.

Sea Salt Wash
Taking care of industrial piercing includes washing the pierced area with sea salt solution, two times daily. For this purpose, dissolve ½ a teaspoon of natural sea salt (non iodized) in a cup pf lukewarm water. Use a sterile cotton swab for applying this salt water to the pierced area. Wipe the area dry using absorbent tissue paper.

Sea Salt Soak
Another way is soaking the pierced area in a sea salt solution. Prepare warm sea salt water in a cup. Lie down with the pierced side facing upwards and place the cup upside down, soaking the affected area. Wipe the area dry with a clean tissue paper. This will quicken the healing process. Avoid Touching
As far as possible, refrain from touching the pierced area. Also, do not let other people touch the site, as it can cause infections. Frequent touching, rubbing or playing with the industrial piercing jewelery irritates the area and triggers inflammation. Whenever you touch the area for washing, make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.

Prevent Infections
Aftercare for industrial piercings mainly involves avoiding any kind of contaminant. While taking a bath, protect the pierced site from getting exposed to soaps, shampoos or conditioners. Also, wrap the area whenever you go outdoors to avoid accumulation of pollutants. By doing so, you can minimize the chances of an industrial piercing infection. In case, there are infection signs like prolonged redness, swelling, inflammation, bleeding and unusual discharge, get it checked by a dermatologist. Read more on ear piercing aftercare.
