Indoor Waterparks, the New Trend in Winter Travel
The number of resorts that offer Indoor waterparks is growing rapidly. Welcome to the new trend in travel, waterparks in the winter.
More and more indoor waterparks seem to pop up ever year across the US. They tend to be more popular in states that have long winters but they are also becoming popular in places like Nevada. The highest concentration of indoor waterparks can be found in Wisconsin and more specifically Wisconsin Dells, WI.
Wisconsin Dells in Wisconsin is often referred to as the "Water Park Capital of the World" and for good reason. With 18 indoor waterparks, it easily has the most indoor water parks of any state in the US. Wisconsin Dell's first indoor water park was build in 1994 and it was the Polynesian Resort Hotel. Since then the number of indoor water parks in the Wisconsin Dells area has boomed. Nowadays each Wisconsin Dells Water park tries to make their park just a little bigger, trying to grab the title of being the biggest waterpark in America.
Currently, the largest indoor waterpark in the nation is the Kalahari Wisconsin Dells Resort. At 125,000 sq feet, their indoor waterpark is truly massive and contains the new FlowRider® which allows vacationers to boogie board or surf 365 days a year. The water park also features family raft riders, a lazy river, a children’s play area, an indoor wave pool and much more.
There are two other states that are jumping into the indoor water park resort industry and they are Ohio and Michigan. Ohio currently has 5 indoor waterpark resorts, three of which are spin-offs of resorts in Wisconsin Dells, WI from the Great Wolf Lodge and the Kalahari Resort. Michigan currently has 6 indoor water parks and also contains a spin-off of the Great Wolf Lodge. The Great Wolf lodge currently has 7 indoor waterpark resorts across the US.
This winter, when you are planning your next vacation take a look at the many indoor waterparks that are scattered across the US. You don’t need to travel south to enjoy warm weather and water activities. You can actually travel north where indoor waterparks guarantee that everyday of your vacation will be sunny and 75 degrees.
