Indianapolis Volkswagen Praises New Technology

Volkswagen is keeping things green with the new TDI Clean Diesel. This Jetta technology is impressing car buyers in Indianapolis as well as the rest of the world.
New to American buyers last year, the Volkswagen TDI Clean Diesel is one of the first diesel engines to meet the emissions standards of all 50 states, including the particularly stringent California standards.

Utilizing technology first unveiled in 2006 by Daimler-AG, the clean burning technology runs on ultra low diesel fuel, achieves MPG ratings in the mid-40s and higher, and is capable of producing high torque in low RPM ranges which previously did not exist for mass produced diesel engines.

The Jetta technology combines two catalytic converters and particulate traps to clean engine emissions prior to leaving the vehicle. This design allowed VW to reduce emissions to fall to less than 1/8 of the EU standard and well below US regulations. This marriage of high fuel efficiency and low particulate emissions is now available to US car buyers in the 4-door Jetta TDI and 5-door Jetta SportWagen TDI. These clean burning models have won numerous accolades since their introduction to the US market including the 2009 Green Car of the Year Award by Green Car Journal.

Both the sedan and wagon qualify for a federal $1,300 tax credit and while the EPA certified the models as 29mpg city and 40mpg highway, independent testing pegged those numbers as 38mpg city and 44mpg highway, more in line with customer expectations. Pricing for these models average $2,000 more than their gasoline powered counterparts and approximately $700 more than their less clean, standard diesel powered models.

For those concerned primarily with fuel efficiency, the Jetta TDI set the Guinness World Record for lowest fuel consumption when a tour last year of the lower 48 states yielded an incredible 58.82mpg average. This fuel efficiency not only addresses the need of today’s economically conscious buyers but the EPA recently concluded that a shift in US car purchasing to 33% diesel based engines would alone be sufficient to reduce oil consumption by 1.4 million barrels a day, or the amount the US imports from Saudi Arabia each day.

Jetta TDI models also come with Volkswagen’s Prevent and Preserve Safety System, a combination of 45 safety features ranging from air bags to electronic stability control. These features are designed to protect the driver and passengers at all times and to reduce the chances of a vehicle accident. The Prevent and Preserve Safety System garnered an award for the Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety as a 2009 Top Safety Pick, the highest rating possible from the not-for-profit organization.

Each model in the Volkswagen line-up for 2009 comes with Carefree Maintenance, a plan designed to provide buyers zero maintenance fees for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles of the vehicle’s life. This same program provides Courtesy Checks for the first 90 days or 6,000 miles; this feature permits owners to stop by participating dealers to have any feature of the vehicle explained by a qualified person.

The Carefree Maintenance program provides standard times of 10,000 miles to bring the vehicle in for service; Volkswagen’s decision to use synthetic oils in the Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI models means oil changes are scheduled to take place in conjunction with each scheduled maintenance visit.

If fuel efficiency and clean emissions are of interest to you, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI are excellent options in today’s automotive market.
