In between - Ch. 2 Death
Our main character tells about his earliest memories. The beginning of his journey as he begins the search for his answer to the curse causing him to walk towards his love with the intent of killing her.
I awoke in my bed half covered by my comforter. It was mid-day I assumed as the light pierced my curtains causing me to squint. Why did it have to be so damn bright? Even the navy blue curtains were not enough to stop the light's assault. I was just so tired, exhausted, and completely drained. My only desire was to dive into the darkness behind my eyelids that was now robbed from me, as the intensity of the light replaced the darkness with a bright pink haze. The humidity was causing my bed to feel like it was damp, and I was sweating since the window AC unit for the entire trailer was a couple of rooms away. I closed my eyes and pulled the semi-wet blanket in front of me so I could wrap my leg over it, while trying to take my mind off how uncomfortable I was, in an attempt, to fall back asleep.
I awoke again to the same damn light, cursing at it in my mind as the room began to come into focus. To my surprise, this room was entirely different from the one I remembered falling asleep in. My attention faded from the fact of me not being where I remember falling asleep to the people standing in here. They all looked sad, and one particular woman was crying. I could just barely make out her face in the corner of my eye. She was a brunette with shoulder-length hair, pointy nose, brown eyes, and a youthful face minus the vitality, that I'm sure normally accompanied her features. She was beside an overly large, muscular man, that seemed to create a wall between her and the rest of the people in the room. He had the same pained look hidden behind his eyes, but he was being strong, strong for her. I remember feeling her hand squeezing mine as I saw a tear drop from her face and land on the sheet next to our hands.
I tried to respond to her. Ask her who she was, who these people were, why was I not in my room, amongst other questions, but my mouth never responded. I attempted numerous times to speak but the words never came out. My mouth never even moved, and I tried to squeeze her hand back with no avail. I could feel myself starting to sweat from my attempt to get my body to respond to me, yet I had done nothing, literally, nothing.
Defeated in my attempt to get someone to acknowledge me, I decided to listen to what was going on around me when I noticed my hearing wasn't working either. At first, I thought everyone was trying to be quiet, for fear of waking me, but then I noticed their mouths moving, people walking around, and others rolling a little table around along with the few chairs in the room. While getting annoyed at practically all of my body failing me, I noticed the machines, and quickly put together that I was in a hospital!
Fear instantly took its grip upon me as I realized that all these people where here afraid of one thing, of losing a life, my life! I tried desperately to do something, anything! My heart was pounding, and I began feeling cold as the machines in the room became the attention of the woman sitting next to me. In a panic, she seemed to yell something into the room as she reached over my head to reach, touch, or push something as a tear fell onto my face. I could see the anger mixed with fear in every one's eyes as a few ran out of the room to get some help. I slowly started to feel tired again, but this time I did not want to go to sleep. I feared it with all my being! I would not close my eyes! I couldn't!
Darkness began to envelope my peripheral vision as its assault on my sight began. I saw a couple of people with white coats trample through the crowd now around my bed. One of them looked at the machines while another shined a flashlight into my eyes. Even though the light was bright, the Darkness was still, slowly, consuming my sight! I desperately wanted to move and could feel the adrenaline flowing through me as my fear was consuming me, causing me to feel nauseous. Please I begged, anything, and then my back arched up for a second. My back arched up again, and again, and again. Frightening me even more was the look on the doctors faces as they realized the paddles where not working. One of them placed their hand on my neck and looked at his watch. After a minute or two he sighed defeated and recited the time from his watch to the other doctor.
"Please no! don't let the Darkness take me," echoed in my mind!
The Darkness was winning and I screamed in fear to my self as the last glimmer of light faded from view. Then, with my vision gone, and despite my iron will, I drifted off believing that my life was leaving my body.

Trees passed below me as I watched animals of many different species pass below me. All of which I had never seen before, even the plant life was alien to me. The trees started to decrees in number and thickness as I started going over a grassy plain with a rather large river flowing through it. Yet again I saw many animals that I did not recognize. This had to be a dream, but how could my imagination be so vivid? My vision took me fast over many mountains, deserts, plains, forests, and villages as I felt like I was getting close to the place I was apparently headed.
A large stone structure appeared on a mountain side in the distance. As I came closer I noticed a bright white, rather large orb in the center of the structure, and began to think that the structure was built to protect it. The orb was magnificently beautiful, felt Omnipotent, and hovered in the air surrounded by pillars made out of some dark rock. The pillars held up a stone slab that provided the roof to the structure and let the mountain provide the outer walls leaving the side I was looking at open.
Figures started to come into focus as I came ever closer. They were in black robes, denying me details of their bodily features. They all seemed male and roughly the same height. Five to six-foot tall I assumed, while listening to the chanting coming from their drone like voices. I could feel the danger in the air around me grow more potent as their chanting grew louder and louder while I was being pulled towards the orb. Despite it being beautiful, I dreaded getting closer to it.
Against my will I felt my body slam against the orb, and I knew this couldn't be a dream as pain started to flood my brain, in an attempt to warn me of the danger I was in, however, it was far too late. Electricity sparked around me! Smoke started to radiate from my skin as I was being electrocuted! The pain was excruciating! My muscles spasm-ed and my skin felt like it was on fire! I was being crushed and I felt my ribs give way as I was being pressed into the orb by some unknown force! Breathing was becoming a monumental task as if I were being constricted by an anaconda!
Feminine like hands came out of the orb and the chanting from the robed figures ceased. They bowed down when the hands grabbed me, pulling me into the orb as if the unknown force wasn't enough. The numerous hands grabbed every inch of my body. At first, they moved slowly, as if trying to not startle me, and had a loving nature about them, however, as soon as I felt the hands grab a hold of me, each and every single one of them became possessive of my body. The orb started to crack, allowing a white ooze to seep through. The ooze had no shape as it escaped its prison, and began to wrap around my body. First it wrapped around my wrists, then my ankles, followed by my neck, and finally around my chest. One hand seemed as if it had reached inside me and was squeezing something. I was in agony from the electricity flowing through me. The pressure from the unknown force and hands pulling me towards the center of the orb made me wish for death as the pain was too much to endure.
The hand inside me was tugging, pulling, and squeezing something inside my chest that was unknown to me, surprisingly, it did not hurt. Finally the orbs protective outer layer gave way as I was pulled to the center of the white ooze which I dared not breath in. The hand won its battle as I felt what it was trying to release radiate through my body. Pleasure ripped through me and I began to cry. It wasn't like an orgasm, more like the feeling you would get when you help someone or did something you knew was kind, and passionate. It felt like pure love, if there is such a thing, and it replaced my pain with a soothing warmth. I had never felt anything like it, and it made the pain worth going through. Mesmerized by what was happening to my body, I lost concentration and allowed the white ooze to enter my body. Instantly, I passed out.
**********
A hooded figure appeared before me but, I could only see a hood and the
faint outlining of a chin.
"I'm sorry for having done this to you child. However, I had no choice. I haven't much time. You are my last chance at salvation. You must find the courage to do what must be done!"
The voice was anonymous, not male, not female, and echoed in my head.
"You must find the courage! Believe in me and I shall guide you."
The figure faded as I awoke once more. Even though I had been through the unthinkable. I still wasn't ready, for what awaited me.
