In the Night: Part 4 & Epilogue
(The broken truth) - The truth unfolds, only for the main character responsible for piecing together the pieces. Please read, and comment on the whole 'in the night' story, and my other ones.
I ran towards the house with the women's scream ringing through my head. Each footstep boomed as loud as lightning. The lights in the house started to flicker; reveling dancing shadows. Now the screams stopped, the house became dark, and the air was silent; the silence was creeping up like death.
Gripping the door handle I pushed on the door, but it didn't budge. Still I pushed just trying, but finally I loosened my grip, and walked back; impression of the knob was etched into my skin. Slowly my head filled with crazy thoughts, but this timed I listened. Taking several steps backing stood for a minute. Then testing my luck I ran, just ran into. I was out of space. Still running I test my fate; covering my face I leaped. For seconds I was still in this as if in a snapshot, but then reality came coursing back. Glass shattered, and pain coursed through my body as I shot through the window.
By this time my eyes had adjusted to the darkness. And as I stood up shaking glass out of my clothes, and wiping blood from various cut; I didn't like what I saw. My only way out, the only bearer of the truth laid dead soaking in a puddle of her own blood. Her mouth was gripped opened as if she died screaming, and her eyes were as white frozen snow. Now there was only one way out to catch the killer bring him in. on my way out the door I closed the girl's eye lids, and covered her with a blood soaked sheet in respect.
I walked out the door expecting the cops to be surrounding the place, but for once I was wrong. Yet instead what I saw was a shadow silhouette walking up the road, towards my house. I said three words, only three words, hoping these wouldn't be my last I said "it ends tonight. Then I ran after the killer.
Faster and faster I ran. Closer and closer I got. Picking up speed the whole time I ran. In till I was right on ready to spring I jumped. Flying in midair a fist lashed out and caught dead on; putting my head in a daze, and sending me flying backwards through the air. Dizzily I stood up, and stood my ground. I looked at the killer, his face, and most of his body covered in darkness. Proudly he said "Did you actually think I didn't see, be honest with yourself kid your no superhero." "I may not be any superhero, but that's not going to hold me back from kick your ass" I said bravely to his face. Then I started to talk again. "You have been tormenting my life, and tonight it's going to stop." I said again. This time he didn't say anything, back or didn't do a thing. Yet I did I threw my fist through the air. Dodging he grabbed my fist, and sent me flying forwards. While on the ground he came over, and kicked me in the side. Then he again he kicked me in the side; by this time pain was raging in my side. "You don't know what you're against kid." He said. "Trust me I'm your worst enemy, you will truly never understand me kid. I through my fist through the air, this time something was gripped in my hands; it shined sliver in the moonlight, and the tip gleamed red. I knew what it was, but I didn't care I let my hand flow free. I stabbed him, but if felt like air. Then I watched what I thought was the killer was, wasn't. The picture grew dark, and the sound of shattering glass filled the air.
Then I understood clearly. It was not the killer who's been wrecking my life. It's been me. The killer wasn't real at all, but he was. He was me, or was he. No it couldn't be, and then he was right, I was right. I wouldn't truly understand him because he was me, and I will never truly understand my own self. After everything that has happened and everything I now know I've done I have truly became my own worst enemy. As I looked up into the sky I saw the blue, and red lights fill the sky. I sat down on the gravel road, and waited.

Epilogue
"Officer Thomas Michal calling in for back up, possible homicide, and murder suspect." I called in to the police headquarters. Quickly I speed up the road, watching in the rear view the several cops behind me. We had got a call in from a local residence telling of possible distresses between local neighbor, and another. The person had also said she could hear lots of screaming, belong to women. After we got we had rushed over; hoping to catch the killer belonging to series of grisly murders, and I do believe we caught him. Slowly we drove up the road of the distress call. We drove until we got to a gravel road branching off the main road. Stopping I had got out of the car. I saw several feet in front a person bent over in the road. The person was crying, and he knew we were there.
Slowly I walked towards the person, my hand gripped on my gun. Then I stopped as the person slowly raised. Still having his back turned he started to mumble "He's here, he's here." "Who's. Here" I had replied back.
"You know who I'm talking about don't you, you do believe right." The guy had said again louder. Then he just started to laugh. Slowly he turned to where we could see his face. His eyes were black, and his face dark; he looked as if he hadn't slept for days. The n he started to walk towards me laughing, and saying" you do believe me right.
As he did the officers behind had their guns drawn, and aimed. Now he was arm distance between us. He had looked at me, and started to frown. Then he spoke "You don't believe me do you no one believes me anymore. It's such a shame you had something special, but I guess not." The guy looked at me, and then swung a knife at me. The knife only grazed me, but as I kicked him away the other cops shot. The gunfire filled the air, and the kid's chest was filled with bullets. Pausing for a second I stared at the kid, and then witched my attention towards the open wound, on my stomach... a doctor rushed over to care for, my wound, and 2 others went and retrieved the kid's body. I watched as they put the kid in the body bag, and loaded him in the ambulance. I closed my eyes resting for a couple of minutes.

The killer responsible for the string of constant murders on the small society, was caught, and killed. What baffled me was he was only a kid. Getting up from the ambulance bed I started walk around collecting my thoughts. I walked by the car containing the corpse of the kid. I started to walk away when I noticed something. Turning around, I looked into the back. The body bag was open, the corpse was gone, all that was left was a shot up bullet proof vest, and a note. Picking it up I read it. "Dear whoever finds this? By now you should find that I'm gone. You may have though your plan worked, but I was known it wouldn't. I know what I have done is wrong, but I need to find myself. Prove myself to everyone including my own self. You can try to find me, but you won't. Please don't bother. I need to believe in myself again. Like a wise man said to me. You will truly never understand, and all you will know is that your worst enemy is your own self. So I need to learn the truth about myself. So off in go forever to dwell, thinking... in the night."
