Chapter 6
"The store?" my desperate answer sounded more like a question.
"And you walked there," disbelief colored his tone. I looked to Drake hoping he had a suggestion but he just stared sadly at me thinking hard and seeing nothing. "Tell me where you are."
"I’m-I’m at Drakes house," I could barely hear myself as I whispered the words.
Silence followed my response. It seemed like eternity before he spoke "Get home, now. There will be no excuses, no delay. If there is I will kill him do you understand?"
The violent threat and menace in his tone left me speechless. Before I could recuperate Drake reached over and snatched the phone out of my hand. "She’ll be there," he flipped it closed looked at me with a blank expression. Once again he leaned over and covered my lips with his.
"Drake!" I gasped in surprise. We shouldn’t be doing this, not when my dad had just threatened to kill him.
"Don’t worry. They don’t know I can teleport so we have some time and I’m not sure when I’ll be able to kiss you again," he murmured onto my lips. I briefly wondered who ‘they’ were and why he wasn’t sure when he could kiss me again but I was quickly distracted when he laid me down on the couch and climbed above me.
One hand supported his weight while his other rested on my hip as his tongue dipped inside my mouth. He kissed me like he was trying to devour me and I kissed him back the same was. The world lost focus and the only thing I could feel, hear, and see clearly was Drake.
"I love you Ally." The words were whispered heavily onto my lips and then I was in the forest by my house. "Don’t tell them anything you know. I might be in your room later if things don’t go to badly." And just like that he was gone.
In a daze I walked slowly out of the woods and was whisked inside by men I had seen at my house only 24 hours earlier. My dad sat on arm chair facing the sofa where my mom sat silently crying. His face was an blank white mask but I could tell by how pale he was that he was mad. He looked straight ahead not even turning to look at me as I entered the house.
"I thought you were dead. Did you know that?" his words were so soft I could barely them but the anguish was clear in his voice. He might be mad but he was also worried.
"I-I’m sorry," I stuttered out not knowing what to say.
My dad finally looked at me. His eyes bore into mine and I could see pain swimming inside his soul. "I don’t want you near him again, ever. You have no idea how worried we’ve been. We can’t lose you, Ally, we just can’t-"his voice choked off as a tear slid down his check. The only time I had ever seen him cry was when my brother’s died.
I quickly realized that that tear helped him put away his sadness and bring out the anger. Oh, joy.
Dad looked away from me and his face got redder than I’ve ever seen it get. Even when we went to Mexico and he got fried like lobster. "Now you understand that if you ever talk to him, speak to him, or even look at him I will kill him, right?" his tone was menacing even though it was still just a whisper and to say it frankly, it scared the shit out of me.
My mouth was hanging halfway to the floor and I was incapable of thought let alone speech so he went on "I know what he is, Ally, a vampire. I will not let you associate will that kind of monster. My men can kill him in the blink of an eye; do you want his death on your shoulders?"
No. I didn’t. "What do you mean your men?"
"One day when you realize that all vampires are evil demons I will tell you but for now you just need to stay away from Drake and his brother. Will you cut off all contact with those hell spawns?" Somehow his soft voice was more pointed than screaming. Numbly I nodded my head. "Go up to your room and we will get you later to inform you of your punishment."
The men in black (that’s their new name since they all wear black uniforms) led my room and locked my door from the outside. I briefly considered the fact that there had been no outside lock this morning but I had more important things to deal with. Like the fact that Drake was now standing in the middle of my room.
"Are you going to stay away from me?" he sounded devastatingly sad.
"It’ll be hard to find time because my dad will probably stick me with a bodyguard or possibly a small army but no I won’t stay away from you," I tried for a little humor but that appeared to have no effect on him.
"It’s not that easy Ally. You’ll have to choose, me or your family." The confusion was obvious on my face and he let out a sigh, "Sit down and then I’ll tell you."
I shook my head "Just tell me Drake," my voice was shaking from confusion, fear, or hopelessness, I didn’t know.
"Your father is…a vampire hunter. "
A sharp laugh escaped me. "You expect me to believe that my dad is a vampire hunter? He’s one of the nicest, kindest, even tempered men I’ve ever known. He can’t kill a spider; I doubt he could kill a vampire."
"At home he is all of that but not when he hunts. Your father is one of the best hunters there is, he’s the boss of all those men down stairs." My mind desperately trying to deny with I had just heard but some of it made sense. He never talked about his job, he worked mostly at night, and it was obvious from the last few days that he had a temper.
"So does he own a company or something? Vampire Killer Inc.?"
"No he works for the government, it’s kind of like area 51 for lack of better words." Area 51? Looks like all those books I’ve read about secret government crap weren’t very far off the mark. "You have to choose right now, Ally. They are trying to kill me and I have to leave, it’s up to you if you want to come with me."
"I can’t choose between you and my family!" How could I leave my parents or let Drake walk away?
The look on his he gave me said that there was no other choice, "I’m staying with my family."
I whispered the words but anyone could tell that Drake heard them and my heart broke I saw pain cover his face, "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I just can’t leave them. "
"I’m sorry, too. I’m sorry that you father has to be a damn vampire hunter. I’m sorry you had to make this choice. I’m sorry I ever saw you. I’m sorry that you don’t love me like I love you!" his voice had risen to a violent shout and feet pounded up the stairs.
Drake moved closer to me and cupped my tear streaked cheeks in his hands, "I’m sorry I only get to do this one more time," his voice was much gentler than before as he lowered his and kissed me.
Then three things happened all at once, the door burst open, men came rushing in, and Drake disappeared.
"The store?" my desperate answer sounded more like a question.
"And you walked there," disbelief colored his tone. I looked to Drake hoping he had a suggestion but he just stared sadly at me thinking hard and seeing nothing. "Tell me where you are."
