In the Light of the Night Chapter 12

I know it's short and not very good but I'm on vacation so I didn't have alot of time.

Chapter 12

"How’d you know where I was?" I asked, the silence seeming more dangerous than talking.

"I may love Jessica but I don’t exactly trust her. She’s…" he paused looking for word,"Easily distracted. So I followed you two."

For some reason I felt the need to defend her, "To give her some credit she only lost me at the very end and she trusted me."

"She trusted you and you betrayed her? I bet she’s frantic with worry right now."

Guilt washed over me realizing what I had done to her. Never had I thought how she would be affected. Or Drake. Drake may have kidnapped me but I couldn’t say I was miserable. Almost happy and that’s more than I can say for the last few years with my hunting team.

The truck suddenly slowed as Drake looked in the review mirror. "What’s wrong?" I asked somewhat panicked, he seemed worried and that wasn’t normal for him, I could tell.

"I think we’re being followed," he turned, sped up, slowed down, and turned again, then spoke "Yep we’re being followed."

Followed? Twine in one day, I think that’s a personal record. "Who is it?"

"I’m not 100% sure but it’s probably someone out to kill me."

"Kill you?" my mouth dropped open in shock. I was used to vampires out to kill me and my team but the thought of Drake dead horrified me. And the fact that I felt like that terrified me.

"Just because the vamps I kill are rouges doesn’t mean that excuses me for killing them. People were family and friends to them. Some vamps even think killing humans is our born right," his face contorted in disgust when a red light flashed through the back window of the truck. "Cops," Drake chuckled.

The source of the light was coming from the top the vehicle behind us, obviously an undercover cop with a light in his car. "So do you have a driver’s licenses?" I asked as Drake pulled over.

"Of course I do. After being alive for hundreds of years you get a few connections." No matter how many times I thought about it the fact that Drake was over a thousand still shocked the hell out of me. It’s like finding out your grandma used to be a whore (I’m not even kidding when I say that happened to me).

"You got any ID?" A man stood next to the driver door shinning a flash light into the car.

"Do you? You’re not in a police vehicle," Drake spoke in an annoyed with in return annoyed the cop. He flashed his badge and once again asked for ID. Drake handed it over and the cop went to go check it.

I was ready for a 10 minute wait which is what is normal then a cop pulls you over. You know when they find your info in 2 minutes but sit there for an extra 8 to make you nervous. That was not what I was in for.

"Ma’am could you please step out of the car?" The officer shinned the light in my face.

"What?" Why did he want me to step out?

He pulled a gun from his belt and aimed at Drake," Step out of the car and come with me, Ally. It’s going to be okay, you’re safe now."

How did you know my name? What did he mean I was safe now? It suddenly clicked, "No officer you don’t understand-"

"No, it’s you who doesn’t understand. This man is dangerous. He’s kidnapped you and probably drugged you so you don’t remember. I have reinforcements coming along with your team. Just step-"a blur of flesh flashed across my vision and the cop fell to the ground with a crack. I looked at Drake whipping the blood off of his hand.

"Did you just kill him?!" I thought Drake was the good guy.

He gave me a pointed look "He’ll have a bad concussion but no permanent damage has been done to him."

"Oh." I felt ashamed for accusing him but how could I know. "What are we going to do now? The officer got your plates so he knows that you have me."

He smiled at me, "No need to worry, there wasn’t an ounce of truthful information on my ID or plates."

Well he did say he had connections.
