In the Light of the Night 8

Also some of you are confused so just ask me what you don’t get and I'll explain. Chapter 6 doesn't have 6 behind it for those of you who were wondering. Sorry.

Chapter 8

You know how in all those romance novels when the main character gets knocked out she always wakes up on the nice bed with silk sheets? Well apparently my life was no novel because when I woke up there were no silk sheets or nice bed just cold metal walls and chains. God I wish my life was novel.

I had no idea how long I had been standing chained to a wall when the lights flickered on. "Miss me?" I couldn’t see who had spoken the words on the count of the bright light and how dark it had once been in the room but I knew who it was.

"Oh, I missed you very much. In fact I missed you so much that was I going to kill you." At least the first sentence had been right and the second one sort of true.

A few minutes passed in silence as my eyes slowly recovered. When I was finally able to see again I suddenly wished the room was still dark. Drake stood just two feet away from me his hands on either side of my head. He wasn’t wearing a shirt and his muscles distracted me more than I liked to admit.

"So did you decide to take your daddy’s place or was this a onetime thing?" His breathe bathed my face in warmth making me remember what it was like to kiss him.

"Killing people isn’t right no matter what you are. I took this job to kill those who kill others," I sounded exactly like Denis.

He leaned away from me, "And that’s why I took my job."

Suddenly I was very confused. "Job?"

"As much as you don’t like it, Ally vampires are very civil. We have leaders and we have laws. My job is to punish the vampires who break the law."

He cut me off before I could insult him like I was planning to do, "Have you ever noticed the difference of a vampires and a humans’ body after they die? No. The vampires’ body simply turns human like it had been before it turned. All the bodies you found that I killed were vampires. I’m not a rouge Ally, just an enforcer of law."

Throughout his speech he had been leaning closer to me, distracting me with his nearness but now all thoughts of him vanished as I took that in. How many vampires had I killed that were good guys? I balked at the thought.

"Let me go," My voice was clipped and menacing but Drake just laughed.

"I did that once before and I have no intention of doing it again." Dark once more splashed over the room and he was gone, leaving me to my wonder what the hell he had meant by his words.

Did it mean he would kill me? Or did he intend to win my heart? I was going for the first one even though my heart screamed for the second.
