In the Light of the Night 5

It's here! Finally! Drake takes Ally to his house.
Sorry it took sooooooo long! I'm not going to sit here and give excuses but I am really sorry.

Chapter 5

"Mom, I’ll be fine. I’m almost 18." Mom was having a hard time leaving me home alone. My dad was a little crazier about leaving me alone and it had taken me about an hour to convince him that I didn’t need a body guard.

"Your dad won’t like it but I guess you are old enough. Call if happens, don’t let anyone in, stay inside-"

"I’m not five, I know all this stuff. Just leave; I don’t want you losing my job because of me." My bottom lip stuck out in the pout I knew my mom couldn’t resist. A few minutes later my mom was on her way to work and I was home alone, at least I thought I was.

"Well that took a while," Drake’s voice rang from the kitchen making me jump in surprise.

"How did you get in? I thought I locked the door," I was 100% sure I locked the door.

He smiled "You did." I considered asking him how he got in but decided against it, I was already going to ask him a million questions today and I didn’t want to wear out his answering ability.

I plopped down on the couch and patted the seat next to me "Sit down, relax, let’s talk," when he didn’t move I kept going "So what do I not know about my dear old dad?"

"Must we talk about that today; I wanted to take you somewhere," The hope in his voice was hard to miss. I really wanted to know about my dad but something in the back of my mind said I would never look at him the same again once I knew. I also wanted to know more about vampires, all their ability’s, how many there are, are there different types. Things like that but that pesky small voice in the back of my head told I might not like what I hear.

I sigh deeply. I needed a break, my head was pounding and the room was spinning. Why did all of this have to be happening to me? "We’ll talk later," I said and gave Drake a stern look.

"Let’s go, I think you’ll like what I have to show you." We walked to the edge of the woods and unease crept over me. I had been told countless times not to go into the woods and here I was ignoring every person including my parents. Drake must have sensed my hesitation because he stopped right at the line that separated my yard from the forest.

"The only reason people don’t come into the woods is because of my family. My father built our house in 1825 and there were almost no people around except for the natives but slowly white people began coming closer and closer to us. One night my cousin Jeremy was out hunting, most of the time we just took a little blood from the natives because we had coexisted together long enough to trust one another. But that night he was too hungry to take blood without killing. He had been starving himself trying to see if vampires could live without blood but it just made him crazy with blood lust.

"Some cocky teens wanted to prove themselves to their friends by coming deep into the forest. One boy fell and cut his hand on a rock. Unfortunately Jeremy was nearby when it happened and could smell the blood. He attacked the boy and killed him. The other boys had seen what Jeremy was and had watched him kill their friend. Jeremy should have killed them but he didn’t have the heart to, he was horrified at what he had done already and he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he killed again. The teens told everyone what they had seen and Jeremy left the body just lying around so it was easily found by people. That’s why everyone told you to stay out of the woods"

Halfway through the story I had begun walking and slipped inside the protection of the trees with Drake holding my hand. "So all of your family is alive?"

"Not technically but yes. My uncle was the first turned, Jeremy’s father. My uncle turned my father, my other uncle, Jeremy, and several other people. He wanted them to be killers, ruthless and evil. None of them would kill like that so my uncle left and my other family member turned the rest of us. Only Chaz, me, and my cousin Jessica are living here now, the rest of my family is all over the world."

In less than 10 minutes I knew more about a vampire family I thought I ever would. They all seemed to have good hearts too, except for the crazy killing uncle of course.
"Close your eyes."

"What?" the random request surprised me.

"Just do it. Trust me." I did trust him so I shut my eyes and then wish I hadn’t. The ground fell away and my stomach dropped. Lights danced in my head and breathing became hard. Suddenly the ground was back but I still felt a little odd. "Open your eyes."

I was happy to oblige. My vision was a little blurry but it looked like we were standing in front of a house in the middle of the woods. "What just happened? How did we get here?"

"Old vampires can teleport the selves to anywhere in the world and very old vampires can teleport people with them." Very old vampires can teleport people with them. Since Drake had just done teleported me he must land in the category of very old vampires.

"So how old are you?"

He chuckled "Older than sin."

"What’s with the mystery? Is your age a deep dark secret or something?"

"On Christmas day I shall turn 1,057 years old." My jaw dropped open, 1,057? I thought I might have heard wrong but the look on his face told me my ears were working properly. "Now enough with the age questions. Look in behind you."

I turned around and my mouth dropped open. A huge house stood in the middle of the forest, completely out of place but in exactly the right place at the same time. Its brown color mixed with the brown of the trees and the snow of winter accented the stained glass windows. Each window had a different scene on it, one a gray forest with solemn looking soldiers and another with a grand piano resting alone in on a ship at sea. The architecture was obviously not of the past century or the one before it, but of a long time ago. The highest point of the house was right in the middle of the house and only about 60 feet from the tree tops. It seems to be a bell tower but instead of a bell a sculpture of a blood red bat sat there.

"This is my house. The one my father built in 1825. Beautiful isn’t it?"

Beautiful didn’t even begin to describe it. It was beyond any beauty I had ever seen; it was gorgeous, stunning, and exquisite. I sorted through all the words I knew but none of them could ever shine a glimmer on light onto this house. "It’s more than beautiful…"

We closer to the house and it towered over us showing us it was stronger, more powerful. Two doors like at a shopping center stood in dark wood with carvings dug out in it. A golden door handle stood out like a sore thumb. Inside the doors it was even better, a mix between modern and ancient. Sleek white was and carpets donned wooden furniture and painted portraits losing color with time.

"Hi, I’m Jessica." A girl about 22 was suddenly only a few feet in front of me. Her hair was a waving, shinny red that hung past her waist. A blue jean skirt was wrapped around her waist and a pink tang top sat snuggly under a pale blue t-shirt. Her eyes glimmered silver like Drakes and Chaz’s but appeared to be lighter. All in all, she was beautiful.

"I’m Ally," I muttered shyly unable to have confidence in front of this gorgeous girl.

"Oh I know. Drake never shuts up about you." A twin blush crept over Drake and my face.

"Yo, bro dude where have you been? I thought the men in black got cha," Chaz’s voice was relaxed a joking and completely different from the last time I had heard him. The shock must have shown a little too apparent on my face because Chaz felt the need to explain his change in mood.

"When we talk to old people we try to sound responsible and caring and nice and pretty much the opposite of the truth. And from the look on your face I’d say we’re good actors." Triumph at fooling my family and I seemed like a silly thing but Chaz looked proud of himself so I decided not to comment.

"You have two options when it comes to Drake. He’s stuck in the body of a horny 24 year old man forever so you can either put up with him or ignore, I suggest ignoring him." Drake stuck his tongue out and Jessica called him a baby and the small bickering went on. They sounded like brother and sister.

"If I were you I would just ignore both of them. They’re just like brother and sister," Darren’s whisper into my ear echoed my own thoughts.

"Shut up!" The outburst came from Jessica and Chaz at the same time and they glared at each other. Drake excused us and steered me away from the crazy two with Chaz yelling up at me to not ‘let Drake bite cha’. Comforting.

Drake showed me all the rooms we past. There was a million bathrooms, a million bedrooms, a study, workout room with specially equipped vampire weights, a kitchen, and a library filled with more books than a person could read in a life time.

"And this is my room." The walls were pitch black as well as everything else in the room. The bed held black silk sheets, the window was framed by lush black curtains, the carpet was a warm black under my feet, and the closet doors were an odd black glass.

"It’s very…dark."

"I try to have my rooms fit me," his voice held a hint of humor in it.

A three person couch in the corner caught my eye; its leather looked very inviting. I ran my hand along the back of it reeling in the smoothness of it before sitting on it and closing my eyes. "I think you have heaven in the form of a couch in your room," my voice was dreamy. The material literally curved around my body making me feel like I was sitting on a cloud.

I felt the cushion next to me sink under the pressure of his body as his sat down. "I think I have heaven in the form of a woman in my room."

I opened my eyes to find Drake staring intensely at me. My gaze slid from his gaze to his lips and he slowly moved forward his intent clear. He was going to kiss my. My eye closed as his lips closed over mine. He tasted new and exotic as his tongue pushed past my lips. He pulled me against his hard chest as he wrapped his arms around my waist and I threw my arms around his neck. Then the unthinkable happened…my cell phone rang.

I jumped like I’d just been caught killing someone and Drake glared angrily at my pocket were my phone was resting. Unwillingly I pulled my arms away from Drake and flipped my phone out of my pocket. "Hello," my breathlessness surprised me.

"Why aren’t you at home?" Dad’s voice was furious and I could hear his breathe coming out in angry puffs.

"W-what do you mean?" I wanted to slap myself for stuttering.

"I came home to check on you and your nowhere to be found. Mind telling me where you are?"

Uh-oh. Busted.
