Secrets are revealed. Sorry it took so long. I had a crazy week!
This chapter took extra long because I was having a really weird week so sorry about that. Chapters won’t normally take this long. I will try to my best make chapters longer though.

Chapter 4

"I hate you!" I screamed while slamming my door. I laid face down on the bed and cried hating my parents. Only 10 minutes after we arrived at the restaurant my mom and dad showed up to drag me home. Someone had told my mom I was with Drake and Mom called Dad and they rushed over to make a scene. I was actually having a good time with Drake, it felt so right to be with him but apparently I can never be happy.

After we got home my parents grounded me for a month, a whole freaking month. It’s so unfair I’ve broken rules bigger than this and gotten less punishment. Why was it so bad to be with Drake? It’s not like I’m going to have sex with him, I met him a week ago and only talked to him twice and I don’t even think you could count the first time.

I flipped over onto my back and stared at the ceiling. You know how if you stare at something long enough shapes appear, well after about an how of looking at the cracks in my ceiling I figured out Bambi and Thumper were playing baseball above my bed. That is what you call true boredom. I considered reading a book but I was really tired, too. Maybe I could just…

Dark. Cold. Slowly I sat up, I was in the woods. It snows cold hard drops of ice. My clothes were frozen and torn offering no protection. I stumbled to my feet and began shuffling forward wanting only warmth. Twigs tore at my skin causing deep gashes. After what felt like forever a voice sounded off to my left, "Honey, come here. I’ll keep you safe."

Instant relief flooded through me. The voice was my Dad’s and he was here to rescue me from this hell. I began walking towards his reassuring voice when two deep growls sounded behind me. I froze and my mom called out to me from the same direction of my dad but I didn’t move. Fear had frozen me in place but not because of the creatures growling behind me but from my parents. I had no idea why I was so afraid of them but I was so slowly I turned to face what lay behind me. Two pairs of sliver ringed eyes faced me. The closer I walked towards them their growling became quieter but my parents cries to me became more frantic, more desperate.

I walked into the arms of one of the creatures. Looking up I saw Drake staring at me wearing his vampiric features. I felt warmth from his body engulf me. An odd tapping sounded from somewhere far away coming closer every second. Soon it became deafening but only I seemed to hear it…

The tapping on my balcony doors woke me from my dreams. I groggily looked up to see if a squirrel was the one who had disrupted my sleep but the form on my balcony was much bigger than a squirrel. I was about to scream thinking that an axe murderer was going to come storming in and chop my head off (And yes, I do know I watch to many horror movies.) when I heard my name being whispered by the oddly familiar voice of Drake. I quickly tip-toed over and opened the doors and was blasted by the cold night wind. "Drake what the hell are you doing here? How did you get on my balcony?" I whispered trying to sound furious but unable to muster up any anger for him appearing on my 2nd story balcony.

"I need your help Ally, please," I looked him over quickly and saw that he was bleeding and looked exhausted.

"What’s going on? Why do you need my help?" I asked him beginning to get scared. Our phone began to ring and cars and shouts sounded in the background. Now I was officially scared.

"Please trust me. All I need to do is hid. That’s it," Drake’s eyes pleaded with me to help him. It was funny in an odd sort of way. I had just had a dream where he had saved me and now I was the one saving him. Life works in sick ways.

"In my closet there’s a ladder that you can pulled down to get into the attic you can hid there," he ran over to my closet and into the attic so fast I was sure he wasn’t human. Maybe my dreams were right, maybe Drake was a vampire.

"Ally," My door burst open and my dad came rushing in, "are you alright?"

"Of course, why wouldn’t I be?" he grabbed my arm without answering my question and pulled me downstairs and onto the couch next to my scared looking mom. Several men in uniforms and with guns stood in my living room by the door. Dad barked commands out at them and they left, he was obviously in charge.

My mom’s nails bit into my arm as she held on to me as. "Mom, what’s going on?" though I had already guessed what was going on I still had to ask and hope that I was wrong.

"Drake he’s…he’s not what you think honey and they think he’s after you," my mom’s words didn’t seem right to me. Well, he might not be what I think he is but he’s not after me, I know he’s not. An overwhelming anger hit me. How could they accuse Drake of anything? And if I was in danger shouldn’t ‘they’ whoever they are be telling me what was going on?

After a few minutes of trying to get answers out of my mom and getting nothing the room cleared and left only my parents and I. My parents said nothing and suddenly I couldn’t control my anger anymore "What the fuck is going on?! You tell me I’m in danger, you tell me Drake is ‘after me’ and that he’s not what I think he is and then you ignore me?! Why is he after me?! I don’t even believe that! I bet it’s just a bunch of bull shit you guys are trying to pull on me! And if Drake’s not what I think he is then what is he?! A vampire?!"

My mom gasped on my last outburst and I knew I was right. Drake really was a vampire. "Go to your room and we’ll talk about this in the morning," my dad’s voice left no room for disagreement.

After slowly walking to my room I turned on my iHome so my parents wouldn’t over hear anything. Sick Puppies blasted from the speakers as I sat crossed legged on my bed holding a pillow against my stomach and staring at Bambi and Thumper playing ball. At least they were having fun. "So when were you going to tell me Drake stood for Dracula?" I asked sarcastically.

"At first I was really hoping never but after we both fainted the first time we met I realized I was going to have to tell you." The bed creaked as he sat down next to me "And to tell you the truth I’m still working on the details."

Finally I looked at him. His white hair was disheveled like he had been running his hands through it and his clothes were wet from the snow melting on him. Blood clung to him ripped clothes but his wounds appeared to have healed, "My mom said you were after me. Want to suck my blood, eh?" I asked once again sarcastic.

"I was after you but not in the way you or your mother thinks. Trust me I don’t want to hurt you, the only thing I’m after is your heart," I stiffened. That was not what I was expecting but I couldn’t deny how his words had made my heart flutter. "What do you think happened when we fainted?"

"Coincidence," that was my only explanation even though it felt like something more.

"I’m pretty sure that’s what they want you to believe but every vampire everywhere has a…soul mate for lack of better words. The first time the vampire looks into the eyes of their soul mate the vamp and their mate will both feel...something. It’s different in all cases but the most common thing that happens is a small jolt or shock, like an electric current running through the body. A lot of the time vampires will put it off because it could be anything. Now other cases, like ours, the feeling is-"

"Wait," I cut him off needing clarification "Our case? As in we’re soul mates?" I wanted to reject the thought. How could I be destined to fall in love with a vampire? But a small part of me hoped it was true, to fall in love with a creature this beautiful was a miracle.

"Yes, we are soul mates." He said the words slowly as if measuring them, "Like I was saying the feeling we felt was much stranger than normal and much more apparent. There really is no point in the feeling soul mates get when they first look at each and it doesn’t matter how strong or weak it is it all means the same exact thing."

I sat there staring at the floor. So many questions were flying around my head but I couldn’t seem to form the words in my mouth. After a few moments I looked up at him and asked the question that felt like the most important "So what happens now?"

A small, bitter smile flashed across his perfect face, "I’ll tell you when I know."

I let out a frustrated sigh, "You’ll me when you know?!" somehow I managed to keep my voice to whisper-shout "You just told me we are supposed to be soul mates, that you’re a vampire, and apparently some people who work with my dad are trying to find you and you don’t know what’s going to happen next!"

"Ally, those people don’t just work with your father they work for him. He’s the boss and there’s a lot more you don’t know about him but I’ll tell you later," I began to protest but he talked right over me, " Because I really don’t think you can take everything that’s just happened and what your father does for a living in one night. Understand?"

Yes, I did understand. My head was seriously about to explode and I’m 100% sure any more life changing information tonight would kill me. I still was itching to know though so it did kind of irritate me that he wouldn’t tell me what I should know. I nodded tightly in response.

Suddenly another question popped into my head and I wondered why I hadn’t thought of it before, "Is Chaz okay?"

"He’s fine, he was out hunting when the men came to get me and he ran over into the one of the neighboring towns." Drake’s answer provoked another question to come forth and my face paled.

"Hunt?" my voice sounded odd to even my ears.

"We don’t kill people unless they deserve it and if we can’t find someone to kill we take a little bit of blood from people whom are sleeping. Our blood heals the puncture wounds so they never know they were bitten. All vamps prefer the kill though it takes away our hunger completely. But like I said most vamps only kill those who deserve to die."

I looked at him in disgust "So you’re all god now? Deciding who should die and who should live."

"You know Ally I don’t even think you believe all that strongly in god. But no we are not gods and we are not demons either, we are predators. Humans kill billions of animals every year without much of a second thought, what is so different about us? Animals kill humans and humans even kill humans, too. So why is it so wrong for us to kill? I only kill those who have or are about to kill or commit another dreadful act. It helps the small ounce of humanity I have left in me rest at night." The truth was apparent in his voice and I couldn’t argue with his logic. It might take a while to get used though. He was also right about god, I wasn’t sure if he existed or not but after tonight anything could be possible.

Silence pierced the air. My exhausted body screamed at me to lie down and sleep but my mind was racing too much to even think about closing my eyes. "I had dreams about you. After the first day I saw you I had a dream I could have sworn was real," I felt like there was something more to my dreams than and he would be able to tell me what.

"The first dream wasn’t a dream," his voice sounded slightly ashamed, "I didn’t think you would remember me coming."

"What?" were the other dreams real too?

"I visited you when you got back from the hospital to check on you. You saw me in the woods and I would have left right after that but you almost fell when you stood. I hopped that you wouldn’t remember in the morning."

"Why did you kiss me?" I couldn’t help but ask.

He smiled "You’re just full of questions tonight aren’t you?"

"If you were me you would be full of questions, too." I pointed out.

Drake looked at the glass doors that led to my balcony and blew out a deep breath, "I should go, I need to check on Chaz and it’s not safe to be here." He got up to leave but I couldn’t stand being alone, not tonight.

"Wait!" I quickly brought my volume down and prayed that the music had covered my outburst, "Please don’t go. I don’t want to be alone."

He paused considering it "I’ll stay with you till you fall asleep. Oh, and no questions either." I nodded my head. It was probably best that the questions wait.

Drake opened his phone and held it up to his ear. "You okay… It was good thinking…Where you at…With Ally…when will be home…No that’s to early…That’ll be good…See ya."

"Was that Chaz?" I knew it was him but I felt the need to ask.

"Aren’t the questions supposed to be held off tonight?" His smirk told me that he was playing with me. So I threw a pillow at him which he easily ducked. "That was rude. I say I’ll stay with you and you throw a pillow at me. Tsk, tsk." His voice held no sign of offense and his eyes sparked with humor. Before I knew what was happening a fluffy pillow hit me playfully in the stomach, then my head, and then my legs.

"Hey stop it!" unfortunately I didn’t sound convincing at all and my giggling didn’t help either. I picked up at pillow to try to block his attacks but that plan failed miserably so I just hit him back. Well tried to at least, he was too fast for me to actually get the pillow anywhere near him.

"Ally, what’s going on in there?" My dad’s voice sounded from outside my door and my doorknob rattled as tried to open it. Thank gawd I had locked it.

I looked over to drake but he wasn’t there. "Uhm…just talking on the phone."

"Who the hell is up at this hour?"I glanced at the clock, two in the morning.

"Uh, Mark." Shit. Smooth move Ally. Dad never liked Mark.

"Ally, if I catch you talking to him again this late at night I will take away your phone and you’ll be grounded for another month. Do you understand?"

"Loud and clear, Dad." I rolled my eyes. I was almost 18 I should be able to talk to whomever, whenever I wanted to.

His footsteps disappeared into his room and I turned off my lights. "So who’s Mark?" Drake’s voice made me jump.

"Where’d you go?"

"Closet. I feel like I’ve been in there a lot lately." I fell onto my bed still fully clothed and not caring. "I have to go. I’m sorry but your father will be listening to even the slightest squeak. It won’t be safe for me and possible you for me to stay."

"Alright, but will you come over tomorrow? My parents will both be at work." I needed my answers and truth be told I’d miss him.

"I’ll come and if your parents are home I’ll just come through your balcony window." Drake leaned over and kissed me.

It was obvious he only meant to give me a small peck but once our lips touched neither of us wanted to pull away. His tongue traced my lips and I opened my mouth to him. Drake rubbed his tongue along mine then pulled away leaving me gasping for breath. "Goodnight my love," he whispered into my ear. And with that, he was gone.
