In the Dark 16
What will tonight bring?
Hey everyone! I'm back. Sorry I've haven't posted in forever and two decades! And yes In the Dark will be continued. No worries. But I'll warn everyone now. I do know every last detail of what is going to happen in the story. All of it will some day be available for you all to read. It's just a matter of writing it down. There's not enough hours in a day, and life is very stressful. Please bare with me until summer. In summer I will definitely have more chapters available sooner, so for now I will write as much as I'm capable of. Thank you! Plz comment!!!! :)
--------------------------------------
Burning! That was the only thing I could think of. After Dad's disappearing act, the pain started. The same thing that was trying to claw out of me was back with vengeance. It originated at the very core of my being ripping apart my soul with its razor-sharp claws. Then the creature moved to feast on the rest of my body. It destroyed everything in its path sparing not an ounce of mercy. Where ever it went it set my insides alight. A flame hotter than the brightest sun. My mind, my heart, my soul all devoured and burned. I couldn't breathe; I couldn't move. I was nothing but pain.
Just when I thought I couldn't hurt more, the creature, having finished incinerating everything inside of me, broke free of the cage of skin that held it.
Distantly fragments of my shattered mind registered screaming, a torturous, high pitch wailing. What sort of animal could make such a sound. Wait... It was me.
My sense of time was distorted. What felt like days could've been minutes.
Finally the pain dissipated. The creature settled down. The fire inside me died down into a tingly feeling. It was actually quite uncomfortable. My mind slowly registered my surroundings. I was still in the room that I was held captive in, but instead of being chained down I was sprawled on the floor. The chains that once bound me now lie torn in two. Examining the restraint I realized, they were ripped apart not cut. But how? Still confused and dazed I got myself into a standing position. Despite being in unbearable pain not but minutes ago, I was unharmed. No blood, no wounds could be found. My body wasn't even sore.
In fact I felt good. Better than good, I felt new.
I strode to the door eager to leave this dreaded place, and get back to Aidan. Surprisingly the door was unlocked. Weird. The door opened to the living room where my past came running back. I screamed. It was torn apart. Furniture was overturned; glass scattered on the floor. The couch was buried in one of the walls. Tables were in two. The whole room looked like a tornado went through it. My breathing sped up. What could've happened here? I took a few steps farther into the room and only then did I hear it. From the pure shock of the sight, my brain failed to register the noise coming from outside. A loud chorus of growls, screams, and metal clashing rose to a crescendo as I sprinted to the front door. Hand clasped on the door knob I threw open the door, literally. The door tore from its hinges and crashed against the stairs. I didn't pay any heed to that though, for my attention was glued to the battle I somehow didn't know was taking place.
Vampires, werewolves, and sidhe alike were engaged in this blood bath. My eyes nervously scanned the battle as I slowly crept farther into the cabin. That's when I saw him. Aidan. With a wild look on his face he cut down anyone in his path. This is familiar... Aidan continued to make his way closer to the cabins. I wanted to shout to him, but he wouldn't hear me. I know what's going to happen... My breathing came fast. Riley and Kade are battling side by side, like a dance. Werewolves' howls and growls crescendo in the night. And Aidan... makes his way toward this cabin.
"No!" I screamed. Not now. Not ever. No. Aidan heard my cry. His head whipped around in my direction. A look of love and relief lit his face, but was quickly replaced by pain. The inevitable had happened. A vampire took advantage of his moment of weakness and impaled him through the stomach with its hand. Aidan looked down at the fatal wound. "No." I whispered. This couldn't be happening. He mouthed I love you right before collapsing to the ground.
I stood there open mouthed. A single tear rolled down my cheek. A moment of sadness touched me. A wash of hatred and malice rapidly filled my soul. In that moment I changed. Instead of being a helpless victim like I was for so long, I transformed into a judge, jury, and executioner. That vampire just got his trial and is sentenced to death.
My eyes scanned the bloody mess for the vampire. When I found my target, something unexplainable happened. A tingly feeling enveloped my body. Then without warning I was in the middle of the battle right next to the murderer. The sudden shift didn't faze me. All I could think about was revenge. My mind took control, and I knew what to do. I turned my hands outward toward the battle, and everything came to and abrupt stop. The whole scene was frozen. Next I walked around to face the vampire. It seemed to be caught in the middle of a snarl. With a cold heart, I thrust my hand towards it, and the vampire was no more. It exploded in a rush of flames like a small bomb. At the same time the battle become unfrozen. Every vampire, werewolf, and sidhe turned with a look of shock to the explosion. My breathing was ragged as I looked around at all the disbelieving eyes. I'd snapped. I'd had enough. Enough fighting. Enough sadness. Enough death.
"Everyone who is not going help needs to get their asses out of my sight or else you'll end up like that poor bastard!" I commanded. No one moved. I searched a few of their eyes and found cockiness. They didn't believe me. Well, I warned them. Examining the crowd I searched for the two male werewolves that kidnapped me. Once I sought them out, I fulfilled my promise. I turned my hands outward and held them there. Then with a horizontal sweep of my hand both of them went up in a ball of flame.
"I said GO!" I yelled. This time everyone, but Riley, Kade, and surprisingly Nolan left. All of their forms melting into the shadowy forest. The three of them stayed still as stone while I slowly made my way to Aidan's limp form. I kept breathing slowly in and out through my mouth trying to keep the tears at bay. This couldn't be happening, I told myself for the millionth time. My legs went limp and couldn't hold me up. I landed beside his body. I didn't care that I was kneeling in blood. All I could care about was this man lying in front of me.
Aidan. My hands fluttered above his form not knowing what to do. One look at his face, and ever so gently I brushed his hair away from his face. No... No. Not him. Not now. Despite my restraint, tears budded in my eyes. Aidan looked so still and pale. My Aidan. My dear Aidan. Why? Just when I found you, I lose you. I leaned down and placed one last kiss upon his lips.
I looked up and found Riley and Nolan above me. I protectively hunched over my love's body. Riley held out his hand.
"I'm not going to touch him, Blair. Come. I know you grieve, but leave him in peace." He said tenderly. I shook my head. I could never leave him.
"Blair... " Nolan started to say.
"No! I love him! He was the only thing that made sense to me! I love him! All this has happened because of me! He died for ME! I..."
"Blair!" Nolan yelled to stop me. I gave him a wild look. "He's not dead." His voice was controlled and neutral. Me eyes went wide. Hope blossomed in my chest. "This wound is not enough to kill one of us, though it appears that way." Nolan bent down beside the blood pool. He dipped one finger in and took a quick whiff. "What's killing him is the iron in his system. The vampire's nails must have been coated in it. Aidan is still alive, but he needs help. It's slowly killing him." His voice trailed off. "We need to get him back to the Queen. She will be able to save him."
"Fine." I agreed. Every so gently I gathered Aidan into my arms. I turned to face Riley, Kade, and Nolan. Their faces I observed were carefully blank. Riley was the one who spoke up.
"Ah... Blair... You can't come..." It took me a minute to process those words before I spoke.
"Because I'm human."
"No." Riley hesitated. "Because you belong to the Unseelie Court." The whole world seemed to stop spinning. Everything went dead silent. No bird sang. No animals moved. No wind whispered in my ears. My breathing seemed as loud as thunder. My mind went over every detail of what happened tonight. I realized I even felt different. Stronger. Faster. Colder. And suddenly I knew. He did this. He knew this was going to happen that Aidan was going to die. He did nothing to stop it. Cold fury kindled in my chest. He would pay with his life. He doesn't deserve to live. I hope Soren makes him burn in Hell.
I knew what I had to do. However vile it may be, I had to endure it for Aidan's sake.
"Okay." I said to Riley. With that I hoisted Aidan into my arms, and I started walking away from Kade, Riley, and Nolan.
"Wait!" Hollered Riley. "Where are you going?"
"To save my mate." I answered plainly not stopping to turn around and look at them. Then suddenly they were all around me. They used their inhuman speed to encircle me.
"Blair, be reasonable. You don't have any idea where the Faerie Mound is or where the Queen is. It's impossible." Countered Kade.
With speed faster than all three of them, I escaped their circle and stood a few feet away from them. Their eyes bugged out unable to believe what they saw.
"Aidan will live, and I will have vengeance. My father will die, and the Unseelie will fall. People are suffering from your stupid war, and I will end that too. If anyone gets in my way." I flung my handout to the tree next to me. It burst in a ball of fire. "Thank you for all your help." With that I turned and sped off into the night.
