In Memory of a Lovely Man

Saying farewell to a good friend who changed our lives with his wisdom and kindness.
The epitome of a lovely man
Can be summed up in just one word and that is
Stan
A font of all knowledge
Dates, facts and times
Snippets of news, cricket scores and rhymes
A loving husband always on hand
A caring relative and friend
One on whom you could depend
The work colleague who would make you laugh

And dance a jig on the Law Court’s path
The man of peace and gentleness
With memories of a little boy
Whose sandy toes you washed and dressed
Pockets full of mints and sweets
To give my little boys their treats
Parties on the river bank
The famous jazz bands
With whom you drank
Lavender fields, elderflower wine

Fishing rods, nets and twine
Tennis balls and garden hoses
Cricket balls and fragrant roses
Muffin the little stray
Who walked into your lives
With a regal and enchanting way
Bringing fun and joy to you
The little ducks with their bread
The seagull who ate Rich Tea instead

Holidays in the South of France
Where you and Jean would sing and dance
Trips upon the seven seas
You took to sailing with such ease
Cannes, Venice, St Petersburg or Rome
Happy away, Happy at home
Those you met throughout your life
Hold memories we treasure
A Happy man who always enjoyed his life

His home, Jean
His very special caring wife
Thank you for the joy you brought us
Thank you for the things you taught us
Your patience and understanding
Thank you Stan for everything
Thank you for being you
God Bless, Captain Birdcage
We salute you
Sleep tight my friend.
