Improve Self Esteem and Self Confidence With NLP & Hypnosis

Self-confidence can be defined as an ability to believe in oneself as well as one's own strengths and resources. It is an aspect of high self-image, and requisite for success. Often, people who possess a social phobia or cannot understand how to increase self confidence are unable to succeed. A deficit in self-confidence unfortunately, is destructive to an individual's success. A negative self-concept sometimes prevents a person in his or her quest to take control over the past and progressing toward controlling one's own future.

Unlike persons with a negative self-image, self-confident persons trust in themselves as well as their abilities capabilities to accomplish their aspirations. They are focused on succeeding; willing to learn from errors made in the past, and have learned to use those missteps advantageously. Such people realize that failing does not make them failures. On the contrary, they simply learned to analyze the root of failing and avoid succumbing to the same difficulties. Self-confident people are aware of, foresee possible impediments to their objectives, and address these hindrances with the assurance that they can surmount these possible problems.

Many issues cause an individual's poor self-esteem. Too frequently, people allow fear to become an obstacle, stopping them from achieving success in some aspect of life. At times, some individuals may be impaired by real or believed guilt over previous errors. At times, a social phobia can undermine a person's self-confidence.

An alternative explanation for impaired self-confidence is naïve expectations. It may be that an individual wishes to succeed at some goal within a given time frame. That goal may or may not be practical. Additional, achieving a goal may at times require more time than initially planned. Needing a longer time to complete a task or having to surmount further obstacles to realize one's goals is not an indication of failure, although it may occasionally be considered as such.

At times, persons who do not know how to gain self confidence search for methods to boost self confidence. Occasionally, they expect therapists to aid them to build self confidence and manage these issues. Several counseling theories focus on building self confidence. One instance of this is cognitive behavioral theory, which instructs individuals to boost self confidence by setting goals for improving self confidence, such as standing up straight. Further, they measure an individual's achievements by the attainment of simpler and then more complex tasks. Focusing on such tasks does help persons acquire behaviors linked with self-confidence; however, it does not revise their self-images or allow them to resolve the difficulties that caused the poor self-concept.

Positive self-talk is one other approach to building self confidence. Frequently, psychology classes discuss the common theme of the self-fulfilling prophecy. This theory maintains that individuals are most apt to realize the tasks that they believe themselves to have the capacity to achieve. Henceforth, if people believe themselves likely to fail or minimal accomplishment, they will do exactly this. In contrast, if they consider themselves high achievers who can succeed, they will accomplish their desires. Counselors who structure their practice around positive self-talk focus on encouraging individuals build self confidence, and aid them to view themselves as successful individuals able to pursue their goals effectively.

Hypnosis is another strategy for building self-confidence. Through building confidence hypnosis, people can achieve a meditative state alone or with the presence of a therapist. They hear affirmative phrases and concepts that help them to feel more self-confidence by accepting powerful behavioral suggestions. This approach is quite beneficial to persons who are not analytical or critical thinkers. In comparison, those who are, however, this strategy for building self confidence is considerably less effective.

A more recent alternative therapy often used to facilitate growth in self confidence is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This innovative therapy can even employ self-perceptions that have been causational factors in a client's poor self-perception to generate thoughts that will facilitate the development of self confidence!

NLP modalities can allow a client to relate prior experiences of achievement to the present. By using the technique of anchoring, people can be helped to identify memories of positive self confidence in their past, and anchor those instances. When that person needs to build once more, he or she simply triggers that anchor to draw upon strengths developed by prior experiences to trust in and anticipate the successful outcome of the current endeavor.

NLP is uniquely simple and yet powerfully efficacious. In contrast with other treatments, it does not require one to painfully analyze past struggles or extensive counseling sessions to work effectively. NLP alone works for nearly every person who approaches it properly. Most people who have tried NLP gain self confidence shortly after initiating the treatment.

Summary: A negative self-concept is an obstacle to success that people must frequently surmount to achieve their dreams effectively. Several treatment approaches can be used to treat individuals increase their self confidence. I have learned that the most beneficial intervention is Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which assists a person to relate memories of past achievements to current feelings of self-confidence.
