Importance of Teamwork

The concept of teamwork is self-explanatory; a group of people working for one goal, where each individual brings forth his/her skills in a concentrated manner and coordinates it with others skills, to produce a desirable end. One can understand how paramount this concept is, almost everywhere one applies for a job the ability to lead or be a team player is acknowledged as an essential skill, and a pre-requisite too. Teamwork and its importance is ingrained in us since childhood. As children, siblings are often taught to work and share; as students we are taught to work on projects together or win games together, even a marriage is believed to be a team and finally our workplaces where our 'fitting in the team' is constantly expected. Working together all the time sure must be taxing, but there is a reason why teamwork is emphasized upon at every stage of our life. But this not to say that individual talent and skills will lay to waste without teamwork, it won't. What teamwork does is to build one's personal skills.

Importance of Teamwork for Children

A child will learn all about teamwork first from his/her parent. So when parents exhibit healthy partnership, kids catch on. How, you as parents deal with conflicts, problems and even anger will be copied by the children. When they see you communicate through problems and work together to resolve them, the children will learn a valuable lesson for life. Schools and athletic meets are a few more places where children should be encouraged to work as a team set and objectives to achieve goals.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of working in a team is to learn early in life to trust, learn to take risks and bring out leadership qualities. In education, teamwork depends upon the way education is being imparted. Educators who encourage students to work collaboratively on academic projects, and at the same time stress upon competitiveness will promote teamwork as well as leadership skills.

Importance of Teamwork in the Workplace

As our workplace is where we spend most of our day, it helps to be open to the concept of working together as a team. As businesses expand and grow, one can no more rely on an individual effort to succeed. People have to work together, and with a business going global, a team may not always be physically present around each other. This is the reason why the ability to lead a team and work as a team is imperative for the growth of any workplace.

Teamwork enhances our skills of coordination, communication and in a way forces us to see the bigger picture, where individualistic dreams have to transcend into collective wants. Trust is vital for holding a team together, especially through failures. Failures are inevitable, but in its face how a team copes, survives and paves a winning path is where the team's strength lies. It leads to better learning, work distribution, healthy competition, and immense job satisfaction.

Teamwork is not only reflected in the team's wins, but also in individual growth. A team in its true sense cannot be built in a day, every member needs to learn and understand each other, as well as individual limitations.
