Immortal Nights - Chapter 16
Bailey and Charlotte have a heart to 'heart' about what they need to do, but what if she needs to risk everyone she loves? Will she go through with it?
Chapter 16 - Charlotte
"Bailey, we need to talk." I walked into the temporary bedroom and sat on an old, wooden chair across from her bunk.
"What?" She scowled. She still didn’t like the idea of living under the ground and I could relate on that. Being a storm brewer I hated being without fresh air or windows. This was our only hiding place though. No one would look here unless informed where we were hiding, which wasn’t going to happen.
"So you know about the prophecy right?"
"Well a little, but I would love to have a read of it?"
"Unfortunately we don’t have it." Bailey let out a snort and waited for me to continue. "Well it does say that on your eighteenth birthday there will be a war. The thing is, even though we are strong, their numbers will outnumber ours... by a lot. I was wondering if maybe you had some very faithful friends?"
Bailey’s jaw nearly dropped to the floor, "You want me to risk my friends!"
"No, they will already be fighting. I can assure you that. All I am saying is that you get them to join our forces, to train with us, fight with us, protect you," I explained and I watched her relax.
"I understand but my birthday is only just over a week away. Is that really enough time?" She took a breath and shook her head, "I mean, are the others even trained?" I knew who she was referring to, the other ‘half souls’.
"Some took some martial arts and sports as kids, being strong, fast and agile but no they are probably not as trained or skillful as you or your friends are." Bailey groaned a little, "but they are very quick learners and what they lack in skill they make up for in strength and speed."
"You’re right," she nodded, "I’m sure if Cal and everyone put their initial reaction to the side they could help with teaching them some things." She reached for her pocket. "Um, do you have my phone?"
"We smashed it up. We couldn’t risk the slayers tracking it," I reached into my pocket, "Here use mine."
She typed in a number and waited for the answer. We were quite lucky that we had reception under the pub, but luckily we managed a few bars. "Put it on speaker," I demanded. I heard the ringing and waited.
"Hello?" A groggy voice answered.
"Cal."
"Bailey!" The voice was very much awake now, "Are you ok? Where are you?"
"Cal," Bailey soothed, "Calm down please."
"Ok, but where are you?"
"In a safe place, I need to ask you a question but first I need to know if you trust me?"
"Of course Bay, you know that."
"Good. Look I need you to get some people who you trust. People who you know are strong and who can fight but who are friends and won’t go blabbing," Bailey instructed.
"Ok Bay, I’ll sort that out now. I’ll call you back soon right?"
"Thank you so much Cal," Bailey was nearly in tears but I could see she was keeping them in. This girl was tough, tougher than nearly anyone I had ever met in my existence.
"Stay safe Bay. I love you."
"I love you too Cal." She hung up the phone and chucked it over to me. She took a few shaky breaths and closed her eyes.
"Thank you Bailey. I’ll be back in an hour or so," I placed the phone on the bed next to her, "keep it in case he calls."

"Lilith!" The purple haired girl turned away from the neck she was feeding on.
"Hello Charlotte, I’m just finishing my dinner if you don’t mind," I shook my head and leant against the brick wall of the alley way we were in. She sunk her fangs back into the nearly unconscious man’s neck. He ground in protest, too weak to do anything else. He was a big man, with a beer gut, thick stubble and bald head. I wonder how she took this man down.
"They're easy to take down." Lilith said like she had been reading my mind. She wiped her mouth and the man slumped, his breathing slow but steady. "They think I’m a prostitute. It happened by accident the first time but I took on the role and it's easy now. They approach, I lead them away and I get something better than money or sex, I get my dinner."
She shook the man awake and stared into his eyes, "This did not happen. You injected Meth into your neck." The man nodded sleepily and fell back into unconsciousness.
"I need to ask a favor Lilith," I said following her out of the alley way and into the buzzing of King’s Cross.
"And what shall that be?"
"I was wondering if you would come train and fight with us?"
She pondered the thought for a second, "If I am going to die I would like to die fighting," she agreed nodding her head in eager agreement.
"Thank you, I’ll take you there tomorrow night."
"Why not tonight? I am not busy."
"Because, I need to ask something else from you." A man walked by and winked at me, gripping my ass as we walked by. I heard his buddies slapping him on the back and hollering at other girls. I don’t know how Lilith put up with this every night. I stopped walking and gripped her arm softly.
"I need you to get the prophecy for me," I asked.
"That is a big favor," she whispered, "but I can do it."
A man whistled at Lilith and made his way over to her. She smiled first at him then at me. "Look," she winked, "desert."

A loud ring broke the silence of the cave. Everyone’s heads sprung up and Bailey looked at the phone. "It’s him." I nodded for her to answer and everyone held their breaths in anticipation.
"Bailey," said the boy’s voice through the speakers, "I’ve got a team."
"How many Cal?" She asked nervously. We needed serious numbers to meet our enemies. If we were a little out their skills could probably make up for it but over ten, we didn’t have a chance.
"I’ve got eight including me but Bay, I don’t think you’re going to like the idea of some of them."
"If they want to help, then that’s up to them." I wrote the address of the pub on a piece of paper and handed it to Bailey. She read him the address and told them to come tonight if they could. It sounded like they had everything under control.
