Many times, people who were unable to gain self confidence during childhood have difficulty building self confidence in adulthood. Traditional hypnosis (using post-hypnotic suggestions) is often quite beneficial. It is best with individuals who are suggestible and easily led. This type of therapy typically is not effective for persons who tend to be analytical or think critically.
Those described by this latter group, Ericksonian hypnotherapy or NLP therapies work much better. These therapies are great for effectively communicating with the unconscious mind, which is the center of our thoughts and feelings. This is because the resistance to suggestiveness usually presented by analytical people is bypassed.
An NLP strategy that clients are often taught to build self confidence is known as anchoring. This is a natural experience. For instance, if you encounter a song from the past, and experience feelings of deja vu, this is because your unconscious related the feelings that you were having at one time, with the music that was playing at the time. So listening again to the music, the unconscious triggers the feelings connected with it. In effect, the song anchors those emotions.
With anchoring, clients are coached to recall a memory where they did experience the emotions of confidence. As they recall and relive those feelings, they are instructed to touch two fingers together. The unconscious then associates the sensations of confidence with this physical action. If the individual reports that he or she has no memory of ever feeling confident, they may create a fantasy where he or she does see himself being confident, and then anchor that perception of confidence.
After anchoring the emotions of confidence, in those situations that demand self-confidence, anchoring triggers memories of confidence that can be used in the current situation.
An alternative NLP technique known as the "Flash" is sometimes used to immediately exchange painful feelings, which are typically connected with a lack of self-confidence. Through this method, the individual uses the visual images that cause negativity, to trigger visual pictures to produce a constructive response.
For instance, the individual programs the unconscious to utilize the mental pictures that cause feelings of uncertainty, as triggers for mental pictures that will trigger emotions of confidence. Mental images trigger an individual's emotions.
Everyone has goals, and desires. A number of persons are able to work toward these to achieve their desires. Sometimes, however, people let their low self-confidence to overwhelm them. Although it is true that NLP might not work for all clients, the large majority of persons who attempt this strategy report astonishing success in building self confidence. This approach is usually more useful than alternative approaches for most people.
Summary: People who do not possess self-confidence often find it difficult to succeed in the majority areas of life. A number of components cause persons to acquire social phobias or issues with incompetence. Several treatment approaches can help persons to build self-confidence. NLP is widely reported to be very beneficial by the majority of clients who have adopted this strategy.
