I'm Secretly Loving Him
Leslie's going to study on a place that's not her comfort zone. How can she survive?
In a prestigious university such as Shēngwàng College, seniors would really want to apply and experience its prestigiousness. The school usually go on a nationwide advertisement of their performance and encourages seniors to apply but they only give 20 slots per year for freshmen college.
Leslie, a senior high school student of a school in Dumaguete, plans to take the examination. She is a daughter of whose parents are both doctors. She really likes baking but her parents usually discourage her on those stuffs. Well, they were planning on letting her take a medical course on a Med school near their place. But finally, it was Leslie's first time to suggest to her parents. Her parents heard about how the school performs and was impress of its graduates which were top notchers on board exams.
One week of persuading her parents, Leslie was able to take the examination. 2 months after, she got a letter from the school that she "PASSED its standard but not yet on the course that she'll take." Meaning, she still has to go to Shēngwàng College, which is situated in Manila, that'll take her 1 hour of traveling if she goes by air. At first, her parents were still hesitant, but later on, agreed only if their condition is being followed by Leslie. "Take medical course, whatever happens, prioritize MEDICAL COURSES."
Being in Shēngwàng College, Leslie was starting to feel the pressure. She was with the other 19 students who have passed the examination and they were having their freshmen orientation. "Being part of Shēngwàng College is a big deal. People will look at you in a way that they want you to feel intimidated because of the college you came from. But it's always the attitude that speaks. Shēngwàng College is known for brains, but brain will be nothing without character . . . . and now I'm welcoming you to be part of the family of Shēngwàng College." says the executive assistant of the DEAN.
The freshmen would stay there for 3 days. 1st day will be for familiarization, 2nd day will be for the exams on the course that each student would like to and the 3rd would be for them to be given the result of having passed their course. Nobody knows anybody and everyone does not mind that but slowly, boys started to get noisy and naughty.
The first day was so fun that 2nd day was just like a winked of an eye. All freshmen were asked on their first option. Leslie took up the nursing exam and it was difficult(bleeding hard) but she was able to answer all the questions. She finished 20 minutes ahead of time and got nothing to do. Accidentally, a boy who was sitting behind her threw something towards someone but unlucky landed on her desk. It surprised her and immediately caught the teacher's attention. The thing was actually a cheat paper for accounting students that was color blue. When Leslie looked at her seat mate, she realized that he was also holding a blue paper and thought that he might be the thrower of the certain cheat paper. So, as a result, both Leslie and the guy were sent to a vacant room where only 5 armchairs are available and a teacher's table. Inside the room, Leslie, who was angry on the guy, sat on the 1st armchair while the guy sat on the 5th one. It was lunch break but no one still offered to each other.
Then came the 2nd session, they would take the 2nd course they'd like to take. Leslie, excitedly got a culinary test papers while the guy got something for photography. Both of them took it seriously and honestly, was waiting for a teacher to be in front of them. But after 10 minutes, no one ever knock or enter the room so they stopped expecting. Suddenly, the guy unconsciously read the question loud, a sound enough for Leslie to hear. The question goes, "What lens is one where the photographer can vary the focal length within a pre-defined range, whereas this cannot be changed with a "prime" or fixed focal length lens?" Well, Leslie's nature is being helpful, knowing the answer, Leslie asked, "Is there zoom lens in the choices?"
The guy looked at Leslie and back to his paper and found the word "zoom lens". "Are you sure with zoom lens?" asked the guy. "Yes!" assured Leslie. The guy smiled and continued answering. Later on, Leslie got a hard question that made her looked troubled. The guy noticed her behavior and asked, "What are you taking?" "Culinary Arts. Got a hard part." respond Leslie. "Well, would you like me to help?" asked the guy, again. Without hesitating, Leslie asked, "This is one of France's most popular double crèmes, this cheese may contain from 60 to 75 per cent butter fat?" The guy answered, "WOW! That's hard. but i guess it's Petit Suisse. Is it in the choices?" "It is! Thank you." said Leslie.
Both finished answering their test 10 minutes before the time. At first, silence made the room awkward. The guy broke the silence by sitting next to Leslie and said, "HI! I think we had a wrong impression on each other. But before i continue, I'm MR.NERD." then offered his hands to Leslie for hand shaking. "If you're MR.NERD then I'm MS.BOOKWORM." and then asked "How'd you know about the cheese? Do you bake?" "Well. Ahmmm.. uhm.... "answered MR.Nerd with a lot of gestures. "It's ok. I won't laugh if you are fond baking." said Leslie. "Yeah. I'm interested but I don't bake. My older brother does, and he's a master on pastries" said MR.Nerd. The bell rang and they both went out the room. They went to a fast food chain for their supper and continued chatting with random topics. The bonding ended when MR.Nerd convoyed Leslie to the girl's quarter where the freshmen girls stayed.
The next morning, Leslie was surprised when an 8 x 4 inches box of cake was placed on her bedroom table. Realizing this, she directly got up and went to Manang Amy, the quarter's keeper, to asked about the cake. "Manang Amy, Is this cake really mine?"
"Oh! Good Morning Iha! Yes! That was really for you.. It was delivered 30 minutes ago. But please forgive me. I left this cake for a while and when I went back, the greeting card was lost. I can't remember or find the card. I'm sorry."
As Manang Amy was talking, Leslie remembered their topic with MR.Nerd and assumed that the cake was from him. So, without any preparation Leslie ran to the boys quarter to know MR.Nerd's real name. But it was too late, MR.Nerds and the other freshmen boys already left early.
