‘She can’t be dead John.’
‘She died seven years ago at the age of twenty, from a cardiovascular disease, Angina which leads to Myocardial Infarction. She was five feet-four inches tall, weighs about a hundred and twenty-five pounds, graduated high school but not college, she had a boyfriend and before she died she was carrying her first child. The child didn’t survive and her boyfriend moved abroad after her death.’ Mr. John handed Klive a picture. ‘This IS Aviary Henrich I’m talking about Klive but the weirdest part was I haven’t found anything about THIS Aviary Henrich.’ he then handed the picture of Avie.
Klive frowned. ‘What the…’ the girl in the first picture looked exactly like Mrs. Henrich. ‘What’s the meaning of this?’
‘My guess is the Avie that we know isn’t the REAL Avie.’
‘It’s obvious but why? I mean all the people in the island think she IS Avie.’
‘The girl has reasons, Klive.’
Klive sigh. ‘I need to check something John, prepare the chopper.’
Thirty minutes past Klive found himself in the graveyard of Mrs. Henrich. He checks the grave next to her.
AVIARY HENRICH BORN: FEBRUARY 14, 1982 DIED: MARCH 16, 2002
He stared at the tomb. ‘What are her reasons?’ he asked himself. Suddenly he remembered something. You opened your doors for me even though you didn’t know who I really was. He sighs. No wonder he found it hard to trust her the first time he met her.
Klive stare at the picture John give him. He was inside the chopper. ‘Who are you?’
‘T code blue…’
I stand up instantly. ‘What? Where?’ I was about to leave our quarters but Ethan stop me.
‘I’m just kidding. What’s with that? Get hold of your self.’ He looked at me intently and sighs. ‘If you missed him…’
‘What? What are you talking about?’
‘I said if you missed him…’ he teased.
‘Missed who?’
‘The Thompson guy, what’s his name again? Oh yeah Klive Emil Thompson.’
‘I’m not thinking about HIM!’ I sigh. ‘I was thinking about Uncle Bradley. Do you think I was harsh on him? It’s been seven months since then but-’
‘Of course not! You’ve done what’s best for your company. He deserves it!’
I sigh as I remembered the scene seven months ago.
I walked in the office full of confused and surprised employees. They stopped their works and stuff just to have a good glance at me. In my case I walked in front of them with my chin up. I’ve nothing to be ashamed with.
‘Am I seeing this right?’ I heard a whisper from one of the employee at my right. ‘I thought she was DEAD.’
I stopped abruptly. ‘What do you mean dead?’ I can’t help myself to ask.
‘You can answer all your questions after we have a chat with your OIC.’
I sighed and resume walking to MY office. I entered the room without knocking. My OIC was so shocked seeing me inside the office that his mouth literally opens as if he want to catching a fly or something. ‘How are things going on here Uncle BRADLEY?’
I saw him blinked twice and I heard him swallow his saliva audibly. ‘What are you doing here dear?’
I flinched. ‘What kind of question was that? This is MYOFFICE, MY COMPANY.’ I stand in front of him with one hand on my waist. I looked meaningfully at him.
‘Oh…’ he stand up from the swivel chair. ‘That’s not what I meant dear. What brought you here?’
I looked around MY office. Bradley changed a lot of things in the room. ‘It seems to me that you made a lot of changes here.’ I sighed and sit down to my chair. ‘I need your reports.’ I said with attitude.
‘I-I didn’t expect your appearance here today so I haven’t make some.’
‘Is that so? I’ll report for you. A part of the company was bankrupt thanks to you. You tried to touched some of my assets which by the way off limits especially to you. You broke the contract and now you’re fired, effective this moment. You have an hour to gather your things but as I remembered, you came to this office with nothing, so I think no need for you to pack. I-’
‘Let me in!’ shouted a girl outside the door. ‘Do you know who I’ am?’ The door flung open. ‘Daddy what’s wrong here?’ Her attention drifted to me. ‘You?! What are you doing here?’
‘Not now Denise.’
I chuckled. ‘So you are Denise KILLIAN Taylor. How nice can this be?’
‘Dad what’s wrong here?’ her daddy didn’t answer her.
‘I’ll tell you Ms. Super Model. Your daddy was fired.’
‘What? Nobody can dismiss my dad. He owned this office, this company.’
I laughed sarcastically at her. ‘Is that what you think? How pathetic!’
‘You bitch! This is OUR company and no one will-’
‘Stop calling me that or you’ll be sorry. This isn’t YOUR company. If I’m not mistaken your family was the fourth generation. The FIRST generations have the right to handle this company.’ I paused for a while to control my anger. ‘My name is Ticiatriz KILLIAN. The only child of Theresa and Ernest Killian, first generation of the Killian group of companies.’ I said it loud and proud to Denise face. She was shocked.
‘Mr. Taylor you’re free to go now.’ It was Ethan.
‘Uncle before you forgot, you had to pay me 50 million Dollars for the lost you’ve made. I’ll give you six months to one year to pay for that. And my dear cousin, if you dare to tell anyone about this whole thing, the one year
might turn into one month. So watch your mouth.’ I said seriously at her.
‘Stop worrying about it.’ he sits next to me. ‘Come here.’
I rested my head on his shoulder. It helped ease away some of my tension and fears. ‘You know what I’m afraid he’ll do something to me or to my company.’
‘No one will to hurt you, I’ll promise you that, okay?’ he sighs. ‘T, don’t worry about the company. It’s stable now, now that handling it personally again.’ he said seriously. ‘It’s been seven months but The Killian Group of Companies was back to where it should be. Some CEOs trusted you more than your uncle. All the transactions were back to normal. Credit that to your hard work Dr. Ticiatriz Killian.’
I laugh softly. ‘The doctor there was out of place. Thank you Ethan thanks for everything.’
‘Yeah sure.’ He stands up. ‘It’s time for my rounds. Are you going to your office now? I can’t go with. I’m schedule for a Craniotomy today.’
‘Oh…’ I make face hearing the procedure. ‘Ten hours of standing in the OR. Good luck my dear best friend.’
He chuckled at my statement.
Klive knocked on the door before he open it. ‘How are you feeling?’ he ask his employee.
‘Sir Klive.’ He greeted. ‘They told me I have a heart muscle disease. I wasn’t able to talk to my doctor yesterday so I’m hoping when she do her rounds, she can clarify this to me.’
‘Okay-’ somebody was knocking on the door. Klive stands up to open it. Two young doctors entered the room. ‘Are you his doctor?’ he asked the girl.
‘Ah… no sir. We are just interns here. His doctor-.’
‘Good morning Mr. Stewart.’ I greeted my patient. ‘How are you feeling today?’ I sat down near his bed reading his chart.
‘I’m okay Dr. Killian. I have some questions before the operation.’
I open his chart. ‘Okay then. My interns are willing to answer your questions.’ I look at them. ‘Am I right?’
‘You’re scaring us Dr. T.’ hissed my guy intern.
I chuckle. Our patient started to ask his question and I just listen to the answers of my interns. I’ve noticed someone inside the room was looking at me intently but I didn’t bother looked up.
‘That’s all Mr. Stewart?’
‘Yes.’
‘Okay then I’ll be the one questioned you two. What are the clinical signs and symptoms manifesting Cardiomyopathy?’ I asked without looking at them.
‘In dilated or restrictive Cardiomyopathy is first diagnosed when the patient presents with sign and symptoms of heart failure. Other symptoms include fluid retention, peripheral edema and nausea, which caused by poor perfusion of the gastrointestinal system. The patient also experience chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, nausea and syncope with exertion. But with HCM, cardiac arrest may be initial manifestation.’
I smile at my self, pleased by her answer. ‘You’ve mention about HCM, dilated or restrictive, what are these?’
‘It’s classification. Cardiomyopathy was classified according to the structural and functional abnormalities of heart muscle.’
‘In Mr. Stewart case, what kind of Cardiomyopathy he have?’
‘HCM.’
‘Why?’
‘Because it’s in his chart and you diagnosed it.’
‘Ms. Smith.’
‘Sorry…’ she pauses for awhile to think. ‘Base on his assessment he has systolic murmurs.’
‘So?’ I ask. I was busy writing orders for his Mr. Stewart.
‘And he has a family history of HCM. His ECG demonstrates some abnormalities…’
‘What is our surgical management for Cardiomyopathy?’
‘Heart… transplant…’ she told me. She sounded unsure about her answer.
I look at her. ‘You’re scrubbing in with me tomorrow.’ I said simply. My phone rings. ‘Yes?’
‘T Code blue… ICU… your patient...’ it was Ethan.
‘Ok thank you.’ I stand up. ‘Continue assessing Mr. Stewart-’ whoa! I stared at the guy standing opposite to me. He was the guy I least expected to see in this area. I clear my throat. ‘Ms. Smith here’s his chat.’
I walk quietly at the car park. I have a very rough day. I revived two patients from ICU. Ethan and Janice once told me every time I hang around the hospital there were always a CODE BLUE. I guess they were right. I revived three patients yesterday and now two.
‘Dr. Killian wait…’
I stop instantly and turned around. ‘Yes-’
‘Can we talk?’
‘I-I’m sorry but I-I can’t.’ I look away and started to walk.
‘Wait. Who are you?’ he whispered.
I stop and sigh. ‘My patients are waiting for me. ’ I look at him. ‘Ticiatriz Killian a surgeon.’ I pause. ‘I’m sorry Klive I really have to go.’
