If I Hadn't... - Chapter 1
It's a high school romance.
Aadi Samray was the Mr. Popular of Pillani High School. He was the guy you could love, hate and envy at the same time. He had everything - the looks, the charm, the money, the brains. He was the player and somehow still managed to be on the list of the brightest students of the year.
Riya Suman was the not-so-pretty, usual next-door girl. There was nothing special about her. Her middle-class family somehow managed to send her to High School. She was an average student and everything about her was average. There was nothing to make her stand out in the crowd.
But somehow Aadi Samray managed to fall in love with Riya Suman...

Chapter 1 - The First Encounter
Riya's P.O.V
I stood at the door of my amphitheater-like classroom. The benches were semi circular in shape with a division in between to make an aisle. The sizes of the benches increased as you moved from the beginning to the end of the room. In the front of the room, there was a raised platform with a podium, probably for the teachers. The last benches were almost occupied except a few. All the students were busy chatting. After all, it was the first day of the school. I noticed there were quite a handful of good-looking people.
I scanned the benches for some place to sit on. The first benches were occupied with 3-4 geeks. Almost all had glasses on, their hair neatly combed and uniform in perfect order. The second benches had some guys talking animatedly to some girls. So I figured they won't welcome my intrusion. The third row had some posh looking girls. All of them were pretty and had make-up on. One among them caught my attention. "Wow." I said mentally as I took in her appearance. She had a hour-glass figure which was visible even through the morbid school uniform (modified uniform i.e extra tight shirt, mini skirt, without any hint of the tie that we all had to wear). She was fair and her auburn hair was loose. Her lips were highlighted to a shade to red and her eyes were a shade of gray. She was really gorgeous. But she looked that type of girl who would call me "plain" and hence, would kick my ego.
The second last bench had 2 girls chatting. They were quite similar. Both of them fair, slender and had average looks. Anyone could have mistaken them as sisters. They looked simple and friendly. So, definitely my type. My eyes flickered off to the last benches. That's when I saw him. Dark brown hair falling over his eyes, straight nose, unfairly handsome and the body of a hunk. He had maintained the uniform code, though his tie was way too loose. Suddenly, he laughed. Oh My God! If only looks could kill! He had a killer smile, with dimples forming in his cheeks. He was surrounded by other handsome boys. They looked nice. All of them good-looking, some even better than him but I couldn't take my eyes off him. I just kept looking at his smile.
"Yes Miss? How can I help you?" A voice boomed behind me. I wheeled around to see a bald, stock man of around forty. Sure, he was a teacher. "Sorry." I mumbled and ran towards the second last bench. "Excuse me, can I seat here?" I asked the 2 girls. one of them smiled and nodded "Sure". I placed my bag on the desk and sat down. "Hi, I'm Neha Tripathi," She continued, "Sheena Sinha," pointing to the other girl. I smiled, "I'm Riya Suman." I said. "Now, quiet everyone... I'm Kunal bharadwaj, your Biology teacher for this session. Today we will study about the living world. What are the living things that you see around you?" He asked the class. I diverted my attention from our teacher to him. He was at the other side of the room and I could easily see him without straining my back. Suddenly, he looked at me. Our eyes met and he winked. I looked away embarrassed.
Aadi's P.O.V
I turned away from Riko. He was again watching a porn. It was nauseating even considering the amount of porn the guy could watch. Ryan was cracking jokes. "God made beautiful, intelligent girls and said, 'You'll find these girls at each corner of the world". Then, he made the earth round!" I laughed. He was funny, I thought as my eyes swept the class for the new beauties (!). Aaliya was looking hot. I stared at her for the fraction of a second before she looked at me. I smiled, cursing ' courtesy' under my breath. Yes she was gorgeous but dumb and an absolute bitch. That's the reason why we broke up a year ago She blew me a kiss. I nodded, somehow resisting the urge to roll my eyes.
Then something caught my attention. Mr. Bharadwaj, our own, "Gablu" had almost bumped into a student. She was a fresher in this school. I had never seen her before. After all, I had checked out almost all the girls in this school. I chuckled. Yes, I was this player and I was damn proud of it. She mumbled something and ran up to sit in the second last bench, at the other corner of the room. I scrutinized her with my eyes. When checking a girl, I always start from the top. An oval face, fair, with slightly round nose and jutting out lips. Her hair was tightly pulled up into a ponytail, except for a few curls that framed her face. Cute in a sort of way but certainly not my type. Gablu started his lecture and I looked away when suddenly the feeling that someone is looking at me made me look back at her and I found myself looking into her eyes. They were dark brown, almost black. I winked (out of habit - that's what I do when I see a new girl). She looked away embarrassed. I laughed. She was cute in a naive sort of way.
Riya's P.O.V
The class ended and I stuck around with Sheena and Neha - my new friends. They were friendly and nice, as I had expected. Sheena was the flirtatious, garrulous one and Neha was the more decent, quiet and observant one.
"So, I got English next. What about you guys?" I asked. " Me too." Sheena chirped. Neha sighed. "I'm having Physics. See you guys around". She waved us and walked out of the locker room. We too shut our lockers and proceeded to walk out the room. My head down studying the routine, I walked. And before I knew I bumped into someone. "What the fuck?" Someone cursed out loud. My books, routine and everything went flying out of my hands. "Shit." I muttered and bent down to gather my books. "What? Can't you see and walk?" The same voice asked. This time, I looked up, slightly exasperated.
It was HIM. My breath stuck in my throat. Yes, he was handsome, I realized as he looked down at me. His brows shot up in a frown and he seemed to scowl. "What?" He asked again. I realized that I was staring at him like an Imbecile. "Oh... I'm sorry." I muttered. "Whatever," he said and walked past me. "That's Aadi. Aadi Samray, the Mr. Popular of our school," Sheena's voice came from behind me. I stood up and faced her. " He's handsome." I said shrugging, trying to be casual about him. "Ya... but don't fall for him. He's a player." She warned. I sighed. "Couldn't care less."
While we walked to our class, she filled me in with all about him. He was the only son of a rich business man. His mother was a fashion icon. They often traveled, rarely staying at home. So, Aadi always ended up alone in his mansion-like house, throwing endless parties. He had dumped numerous girls and now, was on like his 78th girlfriend. He changed about 2-3 girls every month. No one really knew about his personal life and they had never seen his parents. All through her chatter, I just nodded. Suddenly, she pointed to a girl. It was that girl, the prettiest and hottest one of our class. "That's Aaliya. They had been going out for about 1 month - the maximum for Aadi." She whispered in my ear. At that moment, Aaliya seemed to look at us. Yes. SEEMED TO. Her eyes swept over us as if we were non-existent. Internally, I cursed her. Why did she have to be so beautiful? And why did she have to be Aadi's girlfriend? Wait! What did I just say? "What am I thinking? Get the shit out of your head." I whispered to myself shaking my head.
Aad's P.O.V
Riko, Ryan and me walked towards our lockers. "So what about Elisha?" Riko asked again. He had been bugging me for the last half an hour about Elisha - my ex-girlfriend, whom I had dumped about 2 days ago. Riko could not believe that I'd broke up with such a gorgeous girl. "Yes." I nodded yet again. "Damn it dude, I wish I was in your place." He replied, punching my shoulder lightly. Go fuck her, I wanted to say but kept quiet. I closed my eyes, trying to subside the anger inside me.
Suddenly, someone bumped into me. I couldn't control my curses as my eyes opened. It was the fresher. She didn't even apologize, instead bent down to gather her books. Trying hard to modulate my voice, I asked, "What? Can't you see and walk?" Then she looked up. And I forgot I was angry. A lock of hair played on her forehead and her lips as under. She was staring at me. After a while, she was still staring and I started feeling conscious. "What?" I asked. She broke out of her trance. "Oh... I'm sorry." She muttered. Her voice was the deep, husky tone. Sexy. "Whatever." I responded, walking past her.
Riya Suman was the not-so-pretty, usual next-door girl. There was nothing special about her. Her middle-class family somehow managed to send her to High School. She was an average student and everything about her was average. There was nothing to make her stand out in the crowd.
