If I Had Been Your Rock

Thinking back on a death. From a long time ago. of someone very close. Who took their own life. Wondering if things could’ve been different.
How many times did I tell you
that I needed you by my side?
How many times did I say it
before you selfishly died
You left me alone in this dark place
to fall down upon my knees
You left me alone to fend for myself
when you know that I am not strong
You were my wall that protected me
from all of the outside evils
You were the rock that stood at my side
to help me look a bit stronger
I wish I could have been your rock
so maybe you wouldn’t have left
I wish I had been your big wall
so you could have felt protected
People tell me over and over
that I couldn't have stopped what you did
People tell me time and time
That it was an inevitable tragedy to happen
But if I had been your wall
would you have felt a little safer?
If I had been your rock
would you still be here?
