IBM Develops Computer Chips from DNA Cell
Development of a DNA computer chip allows the creation of smaller and lighter hardware and can save costs.

Scientists at IBM Research and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) have found a way to use the DNA structure to build computer chips smaller, faster, and more efficient. Generally processor is now built with 32nm technology, but IBM found a way to overcome this problem by building a chip using 22nm technology, which at the same time to explore a new class of transistors using carbon nanotubes or silicon nanowire.

IBM announced in nanostruktur DNA Lithographic surface pattern, which combines Lithographic patterns with self-assembly to create the structure of DNA origami as 'scaffolding'. This is then used on surfaces that are compatible with semiconductor manufacture equipment. The discovery of DNA molecules for the development of computer chips will be used as a component in the smallest dimension than conventional factory-made semiconductors. DNA origami structures is not only easier for manufacturers to make chips smaller, faster and powrful, but also more efficient and cheaper.

Basic techniques behind DNA origami making was developed at Caltech and began with a single molecule of DNA to construct itself via ionic reactions between single and mixed viral DNA of different synthetic oligonucleotide. According to the researchers at Caltech, the method was also effectively put into nanostruktur DNA origami as in the form of boxes, triangles and stars with dimensions of 100nm to 150nm and with a thick length 2 times the DNA helix, so that each form can interact with those nanoscale components.
