I Think - About Being 'Human'

Top of the rung we are...or so we claim to be. But, something is missing. We seem to have forgotten that which makes us 'human' and different from fellow creatures. Time to think again...
I Think - About Being 'Human'
What is it that actually puts us on a higher pedestal than fellow creatures? Is it our form or self declaration? Well, the various forms that surround us, including our own, are unique and different. And, all creatures - animals, birds, insects and humans are products of some form of reproduction; we all eat, sleep, procreate during a lifetime, grow, evolve – physically, mentally, emotionally, age and die.

Our fellow creatures too have brains, a body suited to meet the demands of their habitats, complex internal systems, a heart and other vital parts of the anatomy. If one part of the body is missing in a particular species, it is present in some other form or the function is handled by another organ. They too have sense organs and react emotionally when dealing with their young, mates and group members.

Then, what is different? Why is it that we are capable of so much command? What is it that makes us human?

Other than basic form, what we have that the others do not is the POWER OF DISCRIMINATION!. We are able to learn and understand 'right' from 'wrong' and apply this knowledge to future experiences. While a human child is quick to learn that he or she has to respect elders, in the animal kingdom, territory rules at large. Respect comes more out of fear than understanding. While we understand the need to share and love, they too do so, but within limitations. Most of their applications with regards to love and sharing are generated from biological need and are purely circumstantial.

If we are human, as we claim to be, and at the apex of every conceivable chart we have drawn ourselves, then why are we not exercising our inherent power of discrimination? What is holding us back?

We assimilate knowledge that can be applied to our lives and society in general. Why are we not making the difference we should be? Look around...

Does not the poverty bring on an ache within that little muscle that can't be pinpointed out by science?

Does not child abuse wrench the recesses of reasoning? Does it not make you identify the brute within the so-called 'human'?

Does not neglect and disrespect to parents touch the inner core of your being?

Does not the manipulative politician stoke the cinders of wrath and irritation within your intellect?

But, we choose not to vote in a better tomorrow, and instead retreat within our dens!

Why is it so difficult to:

TAKE AN INITIATIVE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, SOCIETY, STATE, NATION AND WORLD AT LARGE.

REDIRECT OUR ACTIONS, WITH THE POWER OF DISCRIMINATION, AND WORK TOWARDS PLANET HEALING BEFORE WE WALK THE EVENING SANDS.

BE DIFFERENT AND NOT INDULGE IN THE BLAME GAME.
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS.

BELIEVE YOU ME, WE ARE HEADING FOR A MAJOR TURNAROUND...FOR THE WORST. PROBABLY THIS IS WHAT THE PROPHETS DECLARED AS THE END OF DAYS.

Think about it...

When we, if good old Darwin is to be believed, had no use for wings or gills, we 'lost' them. Then came the 'end' of the wanderer and subsequently even the rural settler, with the development of urbanization and industrialization.

Very recently, we battled and lost the war against sensitivity through the Cold War and terrorism. We really take the bakery, people, forget the cake! After four years of suffering during the First World War and six long years of agony during the Second World War, we (and 'we' relates to us humans) went ahead and aided the Cold War.

And, what was it that scared us away?
Nuclear empowerment!
Where did the reasoning come from?
Fear!
So...which way are we headed?

Those who did not indulge in the Cold War happily dug into 'peace' and made 'pieces' of whatever was left post-liberation. The result – refugees and battle fronts. The final act before the curtain falls, and all thanks to our own efforts, will be one of a deliberate and indiscriminate show of power. False power.

If a person can influence your line of thought, he becomes powerful. If you have more money, you become powerful. For God's sake, if not for our children, lets put an end to this madness. We are capable of so much more. Prove the human side.
