I Need You Both

A child needs the security of the physical presence and togetherness of both parents to feel complete. This one is for my parents who continue to infuse me with strength each day...
I would not have been, if you were not,
How could I breathe without your breath?
You infuse my life with valuable thought;
I dare life's meanders as I welcome death.

You make me whole, full and complete,
I exist in assurance that you usher in dawn;
My coffer is full and with harmony replete,
I inherit your richness of brain and brawn.

Mother and father, you both compliment life;
I am lost with one, while yearning for the other;
Be there, I need your clasp to ward off strife
And benefit from the love of sister and brother.

In your togetherness lies my slumber deep;
In your love is defined my emotional thrust;
You give me joy and make my heart leap
At the stir of empowering emotional gust.

I rest that you are there ever by my side,
In my thoughts and for all I can ever dare;
I live in the bliss that you amply provide
All I know, and love, and miss and share.

As I grow in form and mental strength,
As I pass from picket to adult fence,
You lead the way and provide the length,
Of proven path and well saved pence.

Hold on, please don't succumb to difference,
I will break; see - I am as fragile as I am torn;
Without both of you I struggle with diffidence,
In your shadow, guiding light I richly adorn.
