I Had a Dream About Us
Short Story.

The girl said as her and her boyfriend lay resting on the tepid sand gazing into the serene sea.
"Fascinating. What was it about?" He asked as he began to reach over to drag her into his lap.
"Well, there was a man and a woman." She began "and a baby living down by a lake."
"Boy or girl?"
The smile tugged at the girl's mouth. "Girl of course may I continue?"
"Go ahead."
The girl cleared her throat. "The couple had just been recently wedded and the man had bought the lake house as a wedding gift to her." The girl began to get a wistful sound in her voice. ""They named the baby Serenity wanting her name to have significance."
The boy tried the name out and smiled. "Cute name."
The girl nodded. "The man was in the marines and was called every time and again out on call. Nothing severe since the war had just started."
The boyfriend tangled his fingers with the girls hearing the quiver in her voice. "They got a call one early morning and the girl answered the phone hearing her husband's friend. He said that he had to converse with Michael and the wife became anxious."
The boy started to caress her hair. "If it's to sad to remember you don't have to continue baby."
The girl sniffed and rubbed a tear from her eye." It's a good sad and I want to tell you about it."
The boy nodded and she began once again watching as the waves caressed the sun-kissed beach.
"It just happened to be that the war was becoming grim and the damn army wasn't doing its job. They needed the marine services to take them back to the conquering side. They called in to notify Michael that a means of transportation would be arriving shortly to pick him up; he would be departed for four years.
"Will she wait for him that long?" The girl laid a finger to his lips. "If your silent maybe I can finish before I'm fifty."
The boy chuckled and then fell into stillness. "The husband packed a few belongings and the couple waited on the door steps wordlessly watching as the sun began to set. When the car came around the curvature the wife began to shed tears. Will you wait for me he asked and the wife whispered that she promised she would stay for him. They said their goodbyes and when the car faded around the curve the wife still stand there staring out, keen on the distance."
"That sounds sad but she promised to wait."
The girl nodded and continued. "Four years passed and the baby got bigger until in no time she was five years old. One day the wife was playing in a meadow down by the lake when a truck pulled around the bend. Interested of who it could be the wife told Serenity to stay behind her. When the truck pulled up in front of her the car door opened and Michael exited with a grin plastered on his face. He approached her and gave her a huge bear hug and when he spotted Serenity he leaned down and opened his arms wide. The little girl flew into his arms and kept screaming Papa.. Papa. They later on went into the house to welcome Michael home and when the baby was put to sleep they lay in bed and he whispered "Thank you for keeping your promise."
"So a happy ending?"
"Yes a very happy ending."
As the last ray's of sun glimpsed over the sea the couple stood up and walked hand in hand down the beach. Both secretly hoping the dream would actually come true.
