I Don't Get It

I Don't Get It
I just read in the paper that O.J. Simpson's book "If I Did It", a supposedly 'fictional account of how he murdered his wife and her boyfriend, has reached No.2 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Here is a man who the majority of Americans are convinced is actually guilty of a double murder; and who got off only due to some very high profile lawyering. And yet they are buying his book in droves; for which Simpson will rake in millions of dollars. This is tantamount to rewarding a man for committing the most despicable of all crimes.

Is this what our society has come to? Is it all about fame - or notoriety - and there is no distinction between the two? Do we have such a ravenous appetite for sensationalism and vicarious thrills that we forget our values of morality and ethics? I just don't get it.
