Hydroponic Pot from Florida is Potent and Difficult to Stop
Large scale marijuana operations in Florida grow their plants indoors, producing a product that is several times more potent than naturally grown marijuana.
Growing marijuana indoors is far from new technology, but several factors have come together to create an explosion of house-grown marijuana in the state of Florida. Florida is temperate year-round, which is great for indoor plants as well as outdoor plants. It's very easy to maintain a constant indoor air temperature when the outside air temperature is fairly constant.
In addition to the ease of growing indoors in Florida, the collapse of the housing market there has made it very easy for wealthy pot moguls to scoop up houses on the cheap, then converting the residential homes to large scale indoor marijuana farms, complete with climate control and irrigation systems.
Because of the scope of the technology and energy needed to run one of these indoor pot factories, the services of professional electricians are often required. In order to avoid detection from huge jumps in energy use, electricians route the networks around the utility meters and tap directly into the energy grid. It is often the electricians that tip off authorities as to the location of the growing houses.
Once a house is set up for marijuana production, illegal immigrants are often used to tend the plants and make sure that the system stays running around the clock. Often times, entire families, including small children, will live in homes that are essentially high-tech green houses, with live wires and irrigation systems running throughout the home.
