Hurting Again

Broken and hurt...
I’ve been waiting for you to play that forgotten song
The same words that have kept me going all along
Even as you drowned me slowly
Lulling me to sleep with your deceitfully sweet promises
Wrapping me in your hateful world
You held me down
While the pain took me over
Stealing my breath, suffocating my life
Crippling my mind, bleeding me dry
You watched, I loved
You heard, I hoped
You left, I gave up slowly

And now you stand before me
Stronger because of me
And yet your loneliness is all I see
It rattles in my emptiness
There’s pain in you yet
But I’m not strong enough to take it away
Take whatever’s left this time
Take it, if it’ll erase your memories
Your sorrow, your pain
The tears you and I both cried in vain
