Humanistic Approach
The article deals with the study of humanistic approach by means of understanding the findings of different scientists.

What is Humanistic Approach?
Rejection of determinism is the basis of humanistic approach. As per the concept/theory of determinism psychology, a certain, present state in a particular context is determined by its previous/prior states. The prior states play a major part in determining the current state. The approach of determinism in studying psychology makes it quite pathological without taking into account the dynamics of human mind. The humanistic approach is much more positive.
One of the major difference between humanistic approach and other theories of psychodynamics is the difference in opinion over methods/ways to study human behavior. As per psychodynamic theories, human behavior can be understood only by studying it objectively. An impartial observer was therefore, considered as the only means to judge/study the behavior. The humanistic approach is in contrast to this view. Proponents of the humanistic approach argue that a person is capable of studying his/her own behavior without having to rely only on objective study. However, the influences of social conditions are taken into account. As per psychoanalysis theories associated with humanistic approach, an individual can take decisions pertaining to the creation of a certain experience. This ability to take decisions lies at the core of humanistic approach and is considered as its essence.
Carl Rogers' Arguments
According to Carl Rogers, the behavior of an individual is necessarily subjective and personal. It means that behavior depends on the views and opinions of a person. Many scientists deem the humanistic approach as unscientific. However, Carl Rogers argues that all individuals are subjective. Confirmation or consensus on a particular subject can be achieved when subjective views of different people on that subject/topic converge; this approach is much more reliable and theories associated with humanistic approach shouldn't therefore, be written off.
Views of Abraham Maslow
Abraham Maslow was a little less influential than other researchers say, Carl Rogers, in this field (study of humanistic approach). His views/opinions on humanistic approach though, are still very important. 'The Third Approach' was the term coined by Abraham Maslow. The concept of motivation was considered as important by Maslow from the point of studying human behavior.
Peak Experiences: The 'peak experiences', according to Abraham Maslow, allow us in understanding much more than perceptions, thoughts and feelings that are ordinary in nature. These experiences help enhance/increase the energy flow and refreshes our mind. 'Satori' (enlightenment) a 'Zen' concept is much similar to that of peak experiences. The experience of 'Satori' occurs unexpectedly.
Humanistic Approach in Today's Times
Dr. Martin Seligman has coined a term called 'positive psychology'. The concept/approach underlying positive psychology is that of enhancing/increasing the human potential. Surveys are conducted in obtaining information required for studying the human behavior and psychology in general. Many other means/methods other than surveys can also be used in this research. Coaching psychology is also a new concept that has evolved in today's times. Enhancing the potential of an individual is the core of coaching psychology.
The different views on the subject of humanistic approach presented in this article should help in studying it from a number of perspectives. Objective approach to studying human behavior is not the only way. Information presented above, should therefore, prove to be useful.
