How to Apply Eyeliner
Do you find it difficult to apply eyeliner properly? This article will give you some tips on the important steps that you have to take while applying eyeliner.

Selection of Eyeliner
Eyeliners are available in different forms including pencil eyeliner, liquid eyeliner and cake eyeliner. Among these, most people prefer using the pencil and the liquid one for applying eyeliner. While the pencil eyeliner gives the eyes a soft look and is used for day or formal make up, the liquid ones are best used for evening time as it gives the eyes a striking look. Other than the different types of eyeliners, they are also available in different colors and shades. Though most people love the black eyeliner, experts are of the opinion that this color does not suit all skin tones. Moreover, a different color like blue, green, white, etc. can give a new look to the person. The color of the eyeliner that the person uses should be something that goes well with one's eye color as well as skin color. The most recommended eye liner color for the daytime is said to be shades of brown or charcoal. To get the perfect evening look, one should opt for vibrant colors like purple, red, orange, green, etc. Black eyeliner best suits people who are gifted with beautiful pair of dark eyes, whereas people who have light colored eyes will look good in plums, bronze, etc. While green-eyed people can experiment with the colors like golden, violet, etc., blue eyes look beautiful in eyeliner like white, reddish brown, etc.
Applying Eyeliner to the Top Lid
Before you apply the eyeliner, do not forget to apply base on the face and also the eyeshadow that you have chosen. Applying eyeliner to the top lid will depend on the form of eyeliner you are using i.e., whether it is a liquid one or the pencil one. Let us explore both.
How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner
The most important factor that matters while applying liquid eyeliner is a firm or steady hand. If your hand shivers too much, most likely it will end up in a mess. One thing you can do to avoid this is to rest your elbow on a table while putting on the eyeliner. The brush that should be used to apply a liquid eyeliner should be a thin one which is usually available with it. Dip the brush in the bottle and remove the excess by dabbing it on its sides. Keep your eyes half open so that you see how you are applying the eyeliner. You can either begin from your inner eye and extend it towards the crease or make shorter strokes on the inner corner, middle and on the outer side and then connect them together. An important thing that you have to remember is that eyeliner should be closer to your upper eyelids as this gives a eyelashes a thicker look. Though a thin line gives an elegant look to the eyes, if you want a thick line, start at the middle and move towards the outer corner of the eye. To give your eyes a catty look, do not stop at the end of the eye, rather just extend the line and curl it up a little. If you have small eyes and want to make them look bigger, the best option will be to draw a line on the outer half of the eye, rather than starting from the inner eye.
How to Apply Pencil Eyeliner
Applying eyeliner with a pencil is easier than liquid eyeliner and it will help you in giving your eyes a smudged look. Sharpen your pencil eyeliner before applying, however make sure that it is not too sharp. Also, make sure that the tip of the pencil is not very dry for application. Hold the pencil eyeliner as you are holding a pen with the hand that you use for writing. With the other hand, stretch your eye from the outer corner and draw a smooth, straight line with the pencil. If you do not get the desired results, wipe out with a cotton swab and try again.
Applying Eyeliner to the Lower Lid
Once you are done with the upper eyelid, the next step will be to apply eyeliner on the lower eyelid. Though there are people who use the liquid eyeliner for the bottom eyelid, the best option is to use the pencil eyeliner. The eyeliner can be applied on the eyelids or on the rim. Begin from the outer end of the eyes and then move closer to the nose. You can either cover the entire lower eyelid with eyeliner or just the outer two third of the eye, according to the look you want to achieve.
One important thing you have to remember is that applying eyeliner is an art and it will take some time for you to become an expert. Hence, keep on practicing and you will surely achieve perfection in the skill of applying eyeliner.
