Howard Stern has the rare ability to be incredibly insightful, charming and entertaining, while at other times he’s just an ignorant jerk. And all of those elements are very real aspects of Stern’s personality, which is why he is so compelling as an entertainer. Stern’s most recent trip down the "ignorant jerk" road occurred last week when he went on one of his signature rants about the hit show Girls and its star and creator Lena Dunham.
Stern dropped such comments as, "She keeps taking her clothes off and it kind of feels like a rape. I don’t want to see that." He also referred to Dunham as "a little fat girl who kind of looks like Jonah Hill." Howard backpedaled somewhat from his comments, but still managed to get the most hurtful dig into his apology. "I felt bad because I really love the show Girls, and enjoy it, and I admire the girl who writes it. It makes me feel bad, and I think she is getting the impression that I somehow think she’s just a talentless little fat chick."
Anyone whoever has been a regular listener of The Howard Stern Show knows that Howard is incredibly talented, yet pretty erratic. He’s got a big heart, but he’s unnecessarily cruel, even when it’s really not funny. Most of Stern’s genius and the extremes of his personality spectrum are driven from intense insecurities and psychological quirks that he battles on a daily basis. And every now and then he says things that just make people hate him, sometimes forever.
