Howard Stern Encourages Rosie O’Donnell to Host Satellite Radio Show

Rosie O’Donnell is going to be the next celebrity personality to try her hand at building a successful satellite radio show on Sirius XM.
Anyone familiar with satellite radio understands that the entire medium is being driven by The Howard Stern Show. To that end, Stern’s in the unique position of trying to build his show’s dominant ratings, while also ensuring that Sirius XM is taking the appropriate steps to build a more diverse and sustainable audience.

Rosie was approached by Sirius XM after she made a successful appearance on The Howard Stern Show earlier in the year. Basically, after she proved on Stern that she could hang on the radio with the best, the powers that be saw an opportunity to re-invent Rosie O’Donnell’s celebrity in the form of a radio personality.

It’s difficult to say whether she’ll have the ability, the drive or the star power to launch a successful radio presence, but she probably has enough celebrity friends that could create an initial buzz in the industry. Rosie may not have a firm grasp on the demands of having her own radio show, but she has already taken steps to ensure that she will at least have a very favorable work-life balance when it comes to the show.

Sirius XM has agreed to allow Rosie to broadcast the show from her home in New York. She noted that with her many children, it would be much easier for her if she could do the show from home. With the kids at school all day, she will have the time to broadcast and prepare for the two-hour show. Of course, she likely won’t have any in-studio guests, but it’s radio – call-ins are the name of the game.
