How Valuable Are You?
Where does your value come from? Is it your looks, your accomplishments or does it come from the ones closest to you? If any of these are the source of your self-worth, keep in mind that all these are like shifting sands. Your unchangeable value comes from your owner.
Circumstances are changing and people in our lives change, some of them are in our lives only to help us reach the next level and then they leave but some stay for the rest of our days.
Where should our value come from? Can we let what people say about us determine our self-worth? If we listen to the ones that praise us are we more valuable? If we listen to the enemies, are we less valuable? Or maybe a midway between these two groups should be something we ought to consider as an accurate evaluation of our capacities?
Until you ponder about that, I will write this example with a 100$ bill. A bright new hundred dollars bill is valuable because the United States of America conferred its value, but what if you take this bill and grapple it in your hand? It is all wrinkled now but is it still valuable? Could you still use it just as if it were perfectly neat? Of course you could! Would you still want it or would you just place it in the trash? What if you took this bill and step on it? Now it is dirty and wrinkled, do you still want it? Of course you do!
See, the same way, our enemy Satan wants to sell us the lie of being worthless if we did this or the other, if we have that or the other, if we achieved certain levels or not, but our real value does not come from what we have or don't have, from what people say about us, but it comes from our Owner, from our God who gave us that value in the first place!
We are God's children, His most prized possession, His treasure here on Earth and He paid a huge price to get us out of the deceiving life of sin! Jesus Christ, God's Son, came not only to get us out of hell but also to restore us to that first dignified position we lost when Adam sinned. He said that whosoever believes in Him will do even greater works than He did! Can you imagine that? Greater works than those done by Jesus Christ? Well, He said so, therefore we'd better believe it! Yes, He says in the book of Acts: "In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Acts 2:17-21
It is when we know His love and truth - that means not to only 'know of' or 'know about' but to have really tasted it - that is the foundation where we can grow from. Following the Lord for fear of hell is like being faithful to your spouse for fear they will ketch you cheat on them. That is not love; real love is faithful whether the partner is far or near and just the same, when we taste the love of God, it is like a drug, we want more and more of it! We want more and more of His presence and of what He has for us: peace that passes human understanding, comfort in trials, power to love - including enemies and the ones that hurt us.
All these bad things that happen to us on earth - we are living in a decayed world - can be and are bearable when we know that Jesus Christ actually suffered the most even without being guilty. Yes, these days evil affects us all one way or the other but with God, we can overcome every bad thing and situation and we are more than conquerors trough the One Who is in charge of the Universe! God gave Jesus all the power in Heaven and Earth and He promised to be with us till the end of the days!
Therefore don't let anything or anybody else tell your value - your value is given by God so it is His opinion of yourself that you have to be interested in!
