Haven’t your grandma or aunty never mentioned that the times have changed and kids these days do not have manners? Why? The reason are at times as simple as not sending them a sweet and short thank you note which makes them feel special. Why only them, it would make anybody happy that someone has actually taken out some tome to write a thank you note. Yes and to make the thank you note look and sound warm and genuine you have to put your skill sets to use otherwise it would sound and look no more than just a formality. So to express your gratitude, appreciation and sincerity, write a proper and win it all! Here are some helpful tips for you to write a meaningful Thank you note.

Tips on how to write a Thank You note
  • Send the gift within a few days of the occasion of sending the thank you note so that it is fresh in your mind as well as the mind of the receiver of the Thank you note.
  • Send a handwritten note and not a printed or typed one.
  • Keep all the things that you require handy like the envelopes, paper and pen.
  • Always start with a fresh sheet of paper. Generally Thank you notes are written in cursive and have the date and the salutation as the heading.
  • Do mention the name of the person you are sending the note to since people like to hear their names.
  • When you write the note make sure that you use your own voice and not make it sound like it came form a machine or formal. It should have a personal touch to make the receiver feel special. This can be done with the help of words that you choose to write. Choose words, which exude warmth and friendliness.
  • Try and maintain the same tone that you would maintain when you converse face to face with that person. Use the present perfect tense for your verbs so that when the person reads he or she should feel that everything is happening at that moment.
  • Express how you always wanted that kind of a gift and were planning to buy it, in a way express that you appreciate the choice of the giver and acknowledge that the gifts and gestures that she or he had given or shown earlier had also proved that he or she has concern and understanding of you.
  • Be careful if you have received money because you cannot mention money directly. So try to put it an indirect way.
  • Describe how you would use the gift. Say something good about the gift though avoid exaggeration and lying. If you received let the person how you intend to use the money.
  • Now thank the person, convey your regards and send the note.
There are possibilities that probably you didn’t like the gift yet send a thank you highlighting the good things about the gift and remember to send a token of appreciation which we lamely term as return gift, it can be anything like flowers or chocolate.
