The first part is writing the objective statement. The objective statement states your professional goals in life, what you wish to achieve in life and with what qualities you have. Writing the objective statement is a balancing act where you need to be impressive and believable at the same time.
Job Related Skills
What are the skills you think you have? Which skills do you think will come in handy if you were to land the job? List them all down. The recruiters need to know what skills you will be adding to their company and hence you need to list them all down.
Experience and Academic Record
After all, your academic record is one of the most crucial parts of the resume. A lot of recruiters put a lot of emphasis on the academic record of the candidate as they feel their academic record is a fair measure of their intelligence. Previous work experience is also important as it shows some of your achievements at your previous job and what kind of work you're capable of doing.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Extra curricular activities too are a very important part of resume writing as they help the recruiters define a lot of characteristics for you. For example if you've been the captain of a sports team, it shows to the recruiters your leadership skills and an ability to motivate people and get them to do what you want. So extra curricular activities are an important embellishment to your resume.
Managing the Layout
The resume layout is also very important. It should be neatly laid out so that it is easy to read. It should catch the eye of a recruiter. Simply listing your skills and achievements is not enough (unless of course, they're really good!) and it is equally important to be able to make a good looking resume. It can also showcase your organizing skills and the ability to make a thing look good. So a job in advertising, which demands a fair bit of creativity might look at you positively should you put in a good looking resume. Use the bold, italic and underline functions to emphasize on certain points of which you'd like the recruiters to take a special notice of.
People do not realize its importance. A good resume which gives the necessary emphasis on all your positive points will make all the difference in landing a job interview. Which means you've cleared the first hurdle in your job search!
