How To Treat Yeast Infection With Yogurt: The Best Way

Is yogurt good for treating yeast infection? I get this question a lot from my customers. Here is what I usually answer.
Often there are multiple uses of the common things that we see all around us, and one such example is the yogurt. Many love to eat the yogurt, but did you know that according to many, it can also be used for treating vaginal yeast infections? So is there a relationship between them? Let us find out. But at this point, we need a better understanding of this yeast infection that is also known as Candida Albicans. We need to know how women are affected first, and only then can be delve deeper into its relationship with yogurt.

Candida albicans is basically a fungus like yeast, and it is present in the GI (gastro-intestinal) tract in every person where it constantly battles it out with many other friendly intestinal bacteria, which also calls the GI home. But everything is not perfect, particularly when we turn to antibiotics, because this is when the friendly bacteria get destroyed. And in their absence, the Candida gets a free hand and begins to multiply in large numbers. When this happens, the person may fall a victim to vulvo-vaginitis (a case of severe yeast infection in the vagina) and other ailments as well. Normalcy can be restored only when the person is taken back to the previous condition where there were those friendly bacteria in the GI tract, because they were controlling the proliferation of Candida.

Now getting back to the topic – how can yogurt help in all this? Yogurt has Lactobacillus acidophilus and this can bring back the friendly bacteria in the GI pretty fast. Doctors are aware of this naturally, and so often prescribe yogurt in all those people who have a yeast infection. But this is not as simple as it sounds – there are quite a few steps involved and this is where you can learn about them.

Treating yeast infections with yogurt – the steps

Step # 1

First you will need that yogurt naturally. However do remember to find out with the store assistant whether the yogurt is plain or not. There should also be no sugar, flavoring or fruit in it. The yogurt you buy should also have ‘active cultures’ in it. However all this should be clearly mentioned on the container itself.

Step # 2

The yogurt will have Lactobacillus acidophilus and to achieve their good results, you need to consume at least 8 to 10 oz of it in a week. And if you have done this, the yogurt will ensure that your gastro-intestinal tract will again have the friendly bacteria that are needed. The growth of the Candida will be controlled or stopped and thus, the yeast infection will also be addressed.

Step # 3

Lactobacillus acidophilus is also available in the capsule form and those who cannot take yogurt for any reason may opt for this.

Step # 4

Refrain from taking any corticosteroids or antibiotics till at least the yeast infection goes away.

Yogurt yeast infection – the non conventional approach

Get a tampon used during menstruation and a carton (small) of yogurt that has active cultures and is sugarless.

Now you will need to insert this tampon into the yogurt and then enter this into the vagina – try to push it in as far as possible. Keep it in for a few hours.

Do remember that you will need to do this many times in a day (do this at least twice – once in the morning and once in the night) till you feel confident that the infection is under control. Do this while you are reclining as otherwise the process may get messed up. A good idea would be to wear a pad when you are doing this.

Many say that the yogurt treatment can indeed remove the symptoms of yeast infection. But actually, though the symptoms seem to go away, they frequently make a comeback as soon as the good effects are gone. The correct approach is not to treat the symptoms, but the actual root causes of the problem because the symptoms will keep coming back if the real causes remain. Holistic remedies do exactly this – it treats the body as a whole and identifies the real causes of the problem and then treats it. This is why the holistic approach is so much more effective than conventional medications.
