How to Treat Blocked Tubes - Women's Fallopian Tubes

If your infertility is caused by blocked tubes, how do you treat it? Learn what alternatives there are for this major problem of the fallopian tubes.
About 40% of the cases where couples are having difficulties conceiving a child together is because the woman is infertile. There are a number of reasons for women being infertile. It could be they suffer from blocked tubes or endometriosis which means they have problems the eggs moving down the fallopian tubes to the uterus where they will be fertilized.

In order for doctors to be able to determine if the woman's infertility is being caused by blocked fallopian tubes, they will need to carry out a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) procedure on each woman. However, although this can help, sometimes the only real way to confirm if the blocked tubes are causing the problem is through the woman undergoing a laparoscopy.

Sometimes when the HSG procedure is carried out not enough pressure will be applied to the dye and this can result in a blockage being caused by it rather than one already being there. It could be some other problem with the application of the dye or even the reading of the "films". Through undergoing a laparoscopy, the surgeon will be able to confirm if there is really a tubal blockage or not. Also by doing this procedure, they can determine whether carrying out tubal surgery cannot only remove the blockage but ensure that the fallopian tubes will be and remain open afterwards.

Once the surgeon has been able to confirm that there is a blockage, they have a decision to make of which type of surgery needs to be carried out to treat the problem. The choices surgeons have are between carrying out a tubal anastomosis procedure (this is usually used when infertility is caused by a tubal ligation or some of the fallopian tubes must be removed first), tubal implantation, or a salpingostomy operation. Each of these procedures will not only help to remove the tubal blockage but help reconstruct the other parts to ensure that the woman has a greater chance of conceiving a child naturally.

For any woman who will be undergoing any one of these surgical procedures, she needs a reproductive endocrinologist surgeon who has experience of performing them. Every woman should look for those surgeons who have undergone the specialist training and who have carried out a number of procedures before. Unfortunately, there are only a few surgeons who have the relevant training and experience to carry out these procedures well, so it may mean they need to travel some distance to get their infertility problem treated properly.

There is one such practice (Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center) where these procedures are carried out and done so by surgeons who have the relevant years of experience. The Center is situated in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and not only do women from the state of Carolina attend this center for treatment of blocked tubes, so do women from across the USA and around the world. These women travel to this center to undergo tubal surgery providing them with the best chance to conceive a child naturally.

As well as this practice carrying out the types of tubal surgery procedures mentioned above, they offer plenty of information, advice and support to those women who seek their help with problems with their fallopian tubes. This is a place where women can discuss their infertility problems including those ones caused through blocked tubes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if required via the message board as well as through phone contact and email.
