What is an Ascot
An ascot is a hybrid of a scarf and a tie. Well, conventionally it's a narrow neckband which has pointing wings and a pale grayish patterned silk. At times a tux with silk in gray stripes also adds a bit of attitude to the overall idea of an ascot and your apparel. This is the basic structure of an ascot. Now if you want to know how to make an ascot tie, it's simple. Fold those pointing wings over and hold it firmly with a pin. The pin can be opted out if you are just a casual wearer. Tying an Ascot Tie
- Step 1: Before progressing further, remember to unbutton your shirt's collar and just the first 2-3 buttons to feel comfortable while tying the tie.
- Step 2: Place the scarf/tie loosely around your neck with one side long and the other slightly shorter than its mate.
- Step 3: Now the action begins. Choose the right end of the scarf and gently place it over the left end. It's a cross over if you understood that.
- Step 4: After the cross over, place the long end underneath the short end and loop the long end of the tie around the front of the knot.
- Step 5: Till the 4th step there must be a Y structure that would be formed. Now bring the same long end of your tie/scarf through the Y which is at the neck. (Note: Do not bring the long end through the loop which you made in the 3rd step. Did you get it! That's good. Not let's proceed.)
- Step 6: The top of the piece of your scarf/tie which is in the knot is supposed to be loose and the original knot that is created would be hidden behind the piece of your tie.
- Step 7: The tempt to pull either of the sides would arouse, just so that your ascot tie doesn't get too narrow.
- Step 8: Once you attain this stage, now is the time to tighten and tuck. Quickly tuck both the ends of your ascot tie inside tour shirt and gently move the knot in the upward direction on the back piece of your tie. You want to do this slowly, since that a tie or scarf is made of silk, there might be some chances for it to loosen up.
- Step 9: As you keep tightening the knot, slowly close the buttons of your shirt until your desired look is achieved. It's up to the wearer, if he wants to show a bit of the chest skin, he may leave the buttons open or else tie the knot tightly to cover it completely.

- Step 10: One of another patterns you could wear smartly is by pulling out further your shirt's collar. First tighten the tie and make it more puffy and pull the collar out. Since your shirt is tight it would hold the tie firmly. If you feel stifled around your neck, open two of your shirt buttons at the middle and pull down the fabric gently.
