A tie has always been considered as an integral part of men's clothing, especially for working professionals. It is a symbol that elicits power and authority and will never remain out of fashion. It is also an important aspect of school uniforms that symbolizes membership. Ties are mostly made of cotton, polyester or silk. The double Windsor knot is less popular compared to the half Windsor and can also be a little more difficult to tie. It is now gaining popularity in men's fashion, as more and more men are attempting to learn to tie the double Windsor knot. The Windsor knots are named after the Duke of Windsor, King Edward VII. They are popular as necktie knots for formal occasions like business meetings, interviews and conferences. The double Windsor, is suited for big, spread collars as it is wide and occupies quite a lot of volume. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to tie a double Windsor tie knot.

How to Tie a Double Windsor Tie Knot

Step# 1: Button up your shirt and flip up the collar.

Step# 2: Place the tie around the back of your neck, in such a way, that the wider end of the tie hangs on your dominant hand's side.

Step# 3: The wider end should be hanging more than the narrow end, approximately 12 inches below. Cross the wide end once over the narrow end.

Step# 4: Wind it around the back of the narrow end, below your neck.

Step# 5: Put the wide end through the loop formed in between the collar and the tie, bringing it down towards your non-dominant hand.

Step# 6: Now wrap the wide end around up to the front of the knot.

Step# 7: Put the wide end through the front of the loop, pull it out through the back of the loop towards your dominant hand.

Step# 8: Next, wrap the wide end of the tie once over the knot and form a V-shape.

Step# 9: Pull the wide end through the back of the loop and tuck it down through the front of the loop.

Step# 10: Tighten the knot by gently pulling the wide end.

Step# 11: Then pull the narrow end until the knot firmly sticks to your collar, flip down your collar and you're done!

Use of tie accessories like tie straps, tie bars, tie tacks, tie clips and tie chains will enhance the overall look of the tie and also the outfit. Always remember to follow necktie etiquettes while sporting one to present yourself appropriately and to avoid unwanted embarrassment. Also, wear a tie that compliments your shirt well and purchase ties that are appropriate for your height, as wearing short ties is not advisable for tall men and vice-a-verse.
