How to Take Care of Roses

Roses are beautiful flowers loved by many. It was written by poets sung by singers and very importantly loved by lovers. Rose is a symbol of love. The sweet smell and the beautiful look have attracted almost every individual and those who have a garden will definitely have rose plants to add beauty to the garden. Rose lovers generally have rose garden with many different colors of roses.

The landscape for planting roses must be carefully chosen. You need to leave ample space between rose plants and other bushes. You must plant roses in the area where you will get plenty of sunlight. Overcrowding of roses and other herbs will lead to weaker plants. You must leave space for the roots to spread.

Planting
When you have decided to plant rose in your garden you must first start with what type of rose you need. It is not about the color and scent it is about the roots of the plant. The roots of the rose plant may be bare roots. Planting roses with bare roots are preferred by some people as they can clearly see the health of the roots. The season for planting bare roots is winter. Don't plant rose plants with bare roots at the end of winter season. At the middle of winter, you can plant roses grown in containers. These roses are already grown and you just need to transplant the grown roses.

Feeding
The roses need to be watered daily at least for the first 20 days after planting them. To ensure that the roses grow healthily you must put fertilizers at regular time intervals. You can buy fertilizers on which the roses feed from your nearest nursery. Depending on the type of rose you have planted you need to feed your rose plant. The roses also drink plenty of water. The soil should always be moist but it must not be saturated. Water your plants often to see your roses smile at you.

Pruning
The roses must be pruned regularly for good health. In mild winter season, pruning must be done effectively. Don't cut the plants to the ground. Prune between one third and one half of the plant's height. Pruning must be carried out when the roses are sleeping. Six weeks before the commencement of very cold season, the plants must be pruned. As roses need sunlight for at least six hours a day, reducing the density by pruning will greatly help the growth of the plant. Prune the roses such that you cut down dead leaves and branches. Be careful not to prune too much.

Mulching
Mulching is essential to keep the soil moist and to protect the weed. Wood chippings and glasses would serves as good mulch. When the winter season is up, add more soil to the roots and cover the soil layer with the mulch of wood chippings to retain warmth for the roots. Your rose plants generally go to sleep in winter and you have to protect them from death by providing adequate warmth.

When your leaves are always moist they may get infections. Fungus infections are common in rose plants and you have to take care to prevent these infections. You have use insecticides systematically to prevent these infections from affecting the roses. Put the insecticides on the base of the plant and then water. Generally water the roses from the roots so that moisture is in the roots and not on the leaves. To prevent aphids from eating up your plants you can add ladybugs to your rose garden.
