How to Survive as a Vampire (2)
Jailyn Schreiber is undead. A vampire. She has always gotten everything she's ever wanted. Except one thing: a chance to have a normal blood free life. With the help of Cherė, a helpful yet conflicted Elder. Finally she can have a halfway normal life with blood involved but that's a compromise. And then Jailyn finds out how hard it is to keep her true nature hidden. Especially when she's beginning to fall in... love.
I shift from foot to foot restlessly. I couldn't wait for Cherė's human to arrive. It was common for Elder's to 'own' a human a pet. The younger set of vampires, including me, were restricted until our 65th birthday. Cherė had told me that her human was a man of twenty-two years of age and lived with his siberian husky. And that his name is Ash.
I was tired at that moment. I hadn't thought of all the power would be taken from me. Besides the cross problem, I had just rode in two amazing inventions. A gigantic, metaled, bullet shaped thing they decided to call a 'train'. The other thing was like a bird and was also metal and they called it a 'airplane'.
I had been amazed at the sight of metal in the sky. Being in the dark is never fun. I glanced out the window above my leather blue seats. The sun rose and I gasped. The vibrancy... a mixture of colors spilled out across traffic besides the train station.
As the light reached my eyes, I blinked and turned away as my eyes began to water. True to the belief, vampire's do burn in the sun. The cross is helping me be human and I slowly began to realize why Cherė had been so difficult. I suddenly slumped down in my seat. My body felt heavy and I felt my eyes want to close...
I shook my head and looked around. Humans were looking at me curiously and I to them. They were all different... A sea of colors filled the area as they milled about to go in or out of the station. Not only were the clothes, skin tones, hair, face, and bodies different, I sensed they all had different aura's.
Not only that but they gave off a heated glow. A vibrancy that couldn't be matched. The sunlight paled in comparison. They are alive. I could now see why my brother hates humans. Jealousy is very unbecoming but even a monster wishes to be different...
In my mood of melancholy I didn't notice when a flash of light spurted out of a device. After the second one, I took notice. I sat up and used my last burst of energy to walk to a tall man with a handsome face and a big hard body. He held a device I knew as a camera. In my studies of the human race I'd come across them many times in images.
And they are dangerous to our secret. We never show up in the film.
He looked at me with a worried expression. I smiled gently but I felt panic seize me. He held the camera loosely in his hand. I grabbed it and took out the SD card in a quick motion. Then I handed it back.
"Be careful of who you take a picture of, Sir," I said and calmly stuffed the SD card in my boot, "You might steal a soul."
Then, I attempted to walk back to my seat where my bags crowded around. Before I could, a hand landed down on my shoulder. Honestly, I should've been able to dodge that. I turned to see a younger man who looked to be seventeen. He had a clear face, honey gold eyes, and long black hair that reached his neck. He had a metal ring around his nose and the right side of his bottom lip. The seventeen year old was taller than the camera man but he was leaner and lanky.
I frowned as I felt his heated glow draw me in. I resisted taking a step and closing the gap between us. If I had, I would've wrapped my arms around his neck and....
I felt my fangs grow and they painfully dug into my bottom lips. I turned away. It felt suffocating being in his presence. A need so strong ripped through my body. In instinct, I gripped my rosary and my fangs retracted. But not my hunger.
He flipped his hair and it sent his distinctive aroma toward me. I squeezed my eyes shut. Oh no. Images of me as a true monster hit my mind. Oh God, shut up! I told my mind.
impatient I turned back to him and glared, "What?" I snapped.
He hesitated before saying, "That's my dad's SD card. We need it back for his job...," He said and looked down at his feet. A blush crept up his neck. I wanted to cry, it was so painful to stand there and not feed...
"Boy, there is a difference between - want and need. When you need something it's for survival. When you want something it's usually something you don't need. I assume he has another if taking pictures of strangers is his job." I said it all hastily and rushed. My accent made it all worse.
I had to get away. Out of the blue, a hand grabbed mine. I turned to see a smiling man with ash blonde hair and gray-blue eyes. I caught the faint smell of Cherė in the air.
I smiled but still felt the hunger for the awkward teen behind me.
"You must be Ash." I said to the well muscled man in front of me. He had broad shoulders and nice tanned skin.
"Yes, Miss Jailyn. Will we be going now or was I interrupting. Will we be going now or was I interrupting something," Ash glanced at the three of us and I shook my head.
"Let's go."
