Although the effect won't be the same as how it is when you get your jeans starched from the laundry, but you will definitely be very close. Starching jeans is not difficult at all. It is fairly simple and easy if you know exactly what to do, and the steps mentioned below will teach you exactly how to starch your jeans without getting disappointed. Have a look...
  • The first and foremost step, is to thoroughly wash it.
  • For washing them effectively, you need to turn them inside out and put them in a washing machine.
  • Set the water temperature between cool or warm and add a little quantity of laundry detergent.
  • Once you have added the laundry detergent, you need to pour adequate amount of liquid starch through the fabric softener dispenser on your machine. (The amount of starch depends upon the brand you are using, so don't forget to check the 'directions to use.')
  • Once the washing machine has completed the entire process of cleaning your jeans, take them out and dry them thoroughly on a clothesline or a clothes dryer.
  • Once the jeans are thoroughly dried, hang them using a hanger and spray a solution consisting half of parts of liquid starch and half parts of cool water. Shake the solution well before spraying.
  • Once you have thoroughly sprayed the starch all over your washed jeans, the next step would be to place the jeans on an ironing board and ironing them in a medium high heat setting!
  • Before you start ironing your jeans, make sure that you have arranged your jeans in the way you want the crease to show. In order to have crease, you need to join both the inner and the outer side of the leg seem. Make sure that the steamer is off and start running the iron back and forth holding the seem together.
  • For more stiffness, it is better to divide your jeans into parts, preferably in individual sections of 12 inches. Continue to spray the mixture of starch and water evenly from a distance of 10 inches and continue to iron until you get the desired results.
  • The best way to starch jeans is to continue the procedure of spraying and ironing till you find stiffness and the perfect crease that you are looking for. An important ironing tip in this case would be to apply a little pressure and repeat the same directions back and forth until the portion is stiff enough.
Once you are done with the process, hang your jeans on a hanger to check if all the areas are starched properly. If you think you have missed out on some portions, repeat the procedure to get the desired outcome. If you think that the process is long, yes, it is! But the hard work is totally worth it. Although you might not get the same results as you do in case of dry cleaning, it is definitely better than jeans which is not starched.
